29/11/2024. Cask at The Windmill, Stansted Airport. Pours very slightly hazy golden brown with a small frothy white head. Aroma is caramel, malt, fruits, butter, biscuit, slightest hint of spice. Medium plus sweetness, light bitterness and body. It’s okay.

Cask at the Crosse Keys in the City. Long day at a cyber conference before heading to a dinner in Mayfair. So a pint in the warmness necessary. Good colour in the glass with lasting lacing. Lots of malt and bitter hops and just plain drinkable. Nothing spectacular but a good winter warmer for a freezing day.

Notes from March 2009 Saw this item I didn't recall on cask at Rattle n Hum last week. Place was warmly lit, but the clarity of the beer was well inside its deep amber body. A fizzle of head. A whole pint is my serving. Good value for a midtown bar, but that is for another review. Smell was akin cough syrup, but with layers of scotch, hard water, & a mildly flowered bouquet. Crazy over-reaching flavors of burnt honey, toffee, ginger, rancid melon, salted nuts, & scotch... just too much of so much that it doesn't make sense. I'm one for old & buttered English ales, & am no stranger to cask, but this was very much like compost. Very offensive. Body did have a hint of carbonation. Syrupy, of course. Alcohol was decently hidden amid everything else, though I think I was just so distracted by its obscene greetings to care at this point. I was literally nauseous at the memory of it on the way back home. Never again.

Cask at the Burton Bridge. Pours clear dark amber with a thin off-white head. Aromas of toffee, nuts and light cocoa. Taste is quite dry, dusty cocoa and more general nuttiness. Bit thin at the end.

Cask at the White Swan, Solihull. Poured a clear golden colour with a mostly lasting frothy white head. The aroma is malt, buttery yeast. The flavour is moderate sweet and bitter, with a smooth, somewhat rich, buttery, mineral, woody hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Cask at the Pump House, Shirley, Solihull. Poured a clear dark brown colour with a reddish hue and a frothy, off-white head. The aroma is roasted malt, light ashtray. The flavour is moderate to light liquorice bitter, with a smooth, roasty, somewhat watery, ashtray, light liquorice bitter palate. Medium to light bodied with soft carbonation. Light and bland.

Cask at the joiners arms Lincoln. Deep amber colour with an off white head. Aroma and taste are sweet fruity plum. And malty bitter. Medium body.
