It all began with a Christmas gift in 1994. Billy Pyatt, a notoriously hard guy to buy presents for, fell in love with the carboys, pots, hydrometers, grains, hops, chemistry, and physics involved in brewing. His brother, Scott, fell right in with him. Their love became an obsession that could only be resolved by going pro – not an easy thing to do in 1999!
We have tasting Rooms in Asheville, Morganton and Charlotte NC. Our kegs & cans are distributed in TN, NC, SC, GA and AL.

12/21/20 Crowler from the brewery. NB goblet @home. Slurry-ish magenta pour. Frothy, but quickly falling head. Smell is fresh & sharp lemon peel & deepmacerated raspberries. Assuming this will be sweet. Taste is tangy lemonade with a good splash of sour raspberry juice. Not sweet, but juicy. Frothy, textured, significantly but not super sour. Some leftover yeasties at the very end if you wait that long, but this is basically fruit juice. Can't get over how much like lemonade this is. Refreshing, but is this beer?

12/27/20 Crowler from the downtown location. Tasty Beverage glass @home. Kettle sour with ample fruit. Filtered, amber, weak head. Smells of sticky wheat, cooked pineapple juice, apple cider. Sour wheat, noticably pungent pineapple, lemon, potpourri apricot, veg. Slick malt on the backend. Syrupy, low carb, slight vinegar. Drinkability should be good, but it just feels so meh.

From a can, darker pale with a pinkish hue, nifty lighter colotred matching head. Has an odd off fruit nose. First taste is a little more bitter than expected and later some astringent attitude sets in before the swallow. Blah. Yea, seems a little phenolic in a way. I really don't think this rises to the civilized level of a witbier or belgian ale, its lacking manners. Perhaps its more like a poorly fruited wheat ale or even a typical fruit beer. To call this a wit is misinformed and misleading. Yea, lots of those domestic straight up ignorant wheat ale attributed here baby. In the middle, the fruit starts to come thru a little better, but its still rude. Finish is nothing different, just a little disappointed in this one. At least it has some decent co2 to keep my mind off the overall experience. I'll have to go see if I rated the strawberry version yet.

More sweet than juicy, with a lactose vanilla base laced with mild notes of papaya, grapefruit, and tangerine. Finishes with a decent pine bitterness. Drinkable, but not memorable.

Cheap can. Nose is clean fresh pleasant lager beer aroma. Clear pale yellow in glass. First taste is somewhat sharp pils, but not as sharp as the ones I've been drinken lately, a relief actually. Very good level of carbonation. Sharp bitterness does begin to increase a little in the middle. Finishes with a somewhat refreshing aftertaste, but that sharp bitterness keeps sticking its head up with increasing height.

Pretty much exactly the same as my review for Strawberry Zombie, only replace the word “strawberry” with “blackberry” and there you go.

From a can. Pours a pint can. Aromas of honey and pecan. Flavors are a sweet and smoky roast. Very tasty.
