It all began with a Christmas gift in 1994. Billy Pyatt, a notoriously hard guy to buy presents for, fell in love with the carboys, pots, hydrometers, grains, hops, chemistry, and physics involved in brewing. His brother, Scott, fell right in with him. Their love became an obsession that could only be resolved by going pro – not an easy thing to do in 1999!
We have tasting Rooms in Asheville, Morganton and Charlotte NC. Our kegs & cans are distributed in TN, NC, SC, GA and AL.

4 month old can A: Clearish dull gold color with a short dark beige head that fell quickly to a ring. S: Creamy coffee, milk chocolate and nondescript beer. Maybe some herbal hops. T: Follows the nose. Sweet creamy coffee with generic beer notes including faint pine and herbs. Vanilla and lactose dominate near the end. M: Soft low carbonation, light body, creamy slick mouthfeel. O: OK but nothing stands out. Will try it again fresher.

There are a couple of farmer ted's from catawba. First I thought this was cream ale but fer sher the label says golden ale. Its nearly clear pale yellow, just a slight haze from a can that I got at total wine. Plain old beer smell, nothing offensive, just clean and clear fresh beer, almost neutral on the olfactory. I'm surprised about the alky content on this one, its pretty high for a goldie. Initial taste is ale like but it has some effects of hay and smoothness that reminds me of a good straub lager. Decent, and somewhat refreshing, no lie. Yes, it comes across as a good lawnmower beer but be careful, this stuff packs an otherwise ABV that most session lawnmower beers lack. You may make some crazy paths thru your yard after you had a few of these. I tell you what, this stuff is better than the average ale. There, you have it.
