Bottle from Brewer’s Droop, Bristol. Deep amber with a slight, off-white head and a trace of carbonation. Aroma of weetabix, floral hops, blood orange and something spicy. Full mouth feel, with some biscuity malts, plenty more citrus fruits and decent, bitter finish. Very drinkable.

Cask gravity at Firkin Ale House Folkestone. Black beer lasting beige head. As a dark hoppy beer it’s good. I like the thick malt dark chocolate and thr the grapefruit. Hey surprise I like a black ipa.

Cask at the Kings Arms - London. Pours deep brown with a foamy, tan head. Moderate roasted malt aroma, nips of earth. Light sweet flavor with mild chocolate character, some well toasted bread, a bit of earthy and burnt wood. Medium bodied with fine carbonation; decent condition. Lightly drying roasted malts to finish. Decent stuff.

Keg at BD Sheps Bush, 04/03/14. Dark mahogony brown with a moderate light tan swirl. Nose is roasty, hop notes, cocoa, brown bread, light pine. Taste comprises dusty hops, pine bite, light mineral twang, cocoa powder, light tropicana. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, piney tickle in the execution. Solid enough CDA.

Keg at BrewDog Shep B. It pours near black with a small tan head. The nose is roasted malt, ash, pine, perfumed, floral, potpourri, earth and light smoke. The taste is roasted malt, coffee grinds, earth, dark choc, pine, floral notes, burnt wood, potpourri and citrus peel with a dry, roasty finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Pretty punchy and lot going on....but balance is not quite there for me. Perhaps too much floral against the background of roasted malts. OK.

Keg at BrewDog Shepherd’s Bush - London. Pours deep brown with a creamy, beige head. Lots of dirty, toasted pine on the nose, some cocoa, coffee grounds and ripe orange, too. Medium sweet flavor, pretty well balanced, with long-roasted malts, earth, burnt wood, grapefruit, orange, sticky pine. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Earthy burnt wood to finish with baking cocoa, scorched pine, rindy and ripe citrus fruits, dried dark berries. Solid.

Bottle from Archer Road Beer Stop, Sheffield. Pale gold. White, broken head. Peachy, zesty, marmalade aroma. Maltiness peeks through. There’s an initial jammy, sweetness on first taste, before a zesty, citric pithiness comes in. The light maltiness balances everything up. Very nice beer.

Cask-conditioned at the Seven Stars, Bristol 21/12/2013. Deep, reddish amber with a frothy, off-white head. Cinnamon, nutmeg and a touch of clove, alongside some sweet malts. Ok.

Cask at the Duke William during the RateBeer Black Country Bus Bash. Pours clear gold with a light, white cream head. Tangy, almost sour citrus and hay aroma. Light sweet flavor with some odd smoke notes, mild tang, dirty hay. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Bitter dirty hay finish, moderately sweet, with tangy orange. Meh.
