This beer violates some expectations! But its still a nice beer. Poured a translucent purple-brown, with a modest head and spotty lacing. Aroma was initially hoppy, much to my surprise, with a floral grassy character but it quickly gave way to a richer chocolate malt. The flavor was sweeter with chocolate malt. Balanced finish, spritzy carbonation. Easy finish has a medium body.

A dark amber ale with a thick light moka head. A sweet nutty ma;t aroma. In mouth, very nutty and mineral malt, crisp and dry, notes of iron, a bit metallic. Medium bodied. On tap at Tutu Tango, April 10 2009.

Almost pure amber with a nice foamy head that left a good sheet of lace. Very perfurmed hop nose with a bit of lime rind and possibly mango or something tropical. Very balanced flavor, with a citrusy hop right up front balanced by a doughy cookie like maltiness. Finish is fairly bitter but still pretty well balanced. There’s a lingering citric bitterness like chewing on lemon rind. Palate is on the light side, making this very quaffable, and at 5.6% ABV, its a great semi-session beer.

Pours deep brown with brown edges and tan head. The aroma is mildly roasty to mildly burnt to coffee with a sense of oxidation and earthiness. I also get a bit of vague sweetness in the background. The taste seems smooth and creamy to start bringing in some roast and nearly burnt malts. Into the finish a modest drying sensation picks up due to some roasty malt astringency.
