Minty, rosemary, and candi sugar bouquet, almost mouthwash-like. Shimmering yellow, no head. Tart and herbal flavor of lemon, carraway, and anise. Delightfully flavorful. A good concotion.

.5 l bottle. Got this in 2007 and cellared it. Why? I don’t think I quite worked that a beer that "keeps" isn’t the same as one that ages well. So let’s do this. Tart fruit under the cap. Pours a lot of white foam over a clear golden beer. I can’t remember having many sour beers this clear and light, except for other Berliners. Sour cherry in nose, but quite light. Foam is gone pretty quickly. Leaves behind a beer that I wouldn’t quite call "sour" like so many Flemish ales. A bit puckery, yes, but malty as any German lager. Sourness builds as I go further into the beer, like escalating heat when I eat a chile pepper. Like they say, a zesty and refreshing beer style, and this is a nice example. Surprised to find some yeast slurry at the bottom. Has anyone tried to recultivate it?

Draught at Ginger Man, NYC
Cloudy pale blond color; creamy head. Peppery aroma, lightly citrusy too (lemongrass). Watery mouthfeel, light flavor, very light sourness. Not achieved.

500 mL bottle. Pours golden with a large white, fizzy head that dissolves rapidly like a soft drink. Aroma is sour, with lemon, apple, sugar, and wheat. Flavor is light at first but builds up nicely, with a tart sourness, green and red apple, lemon, and some sweetness and wheaty biscuit approach toward the finish. Lots of carbonation. Relaxing and easy to enjoy.

Colour as freshly pressed pineapple juice; very carbonated to medium, irregular and lively white head. Very strong aromatic smell of fresh herbs as lavender, rosemary, bog myrtle, ginger, and other similes. Smells like the mix for roast lambrack - and a pot from the bathroom shelf. Very obvious rosemary in the tate - the lambrack reappearing - or Mediterranean crisps - spritzy sourness. Refreshing despite the soapy aromatics, the CO² undoubtely helping. Medium bodied at best. Interesting? Absolutely and more so. Refreshing? No doubt. Drinkable? Ye-es... but I doubt in large quantities. Many thanks to Der Doppelbock for this one!

Hazy golden coloured body with a thinnish white head. Aroma of lemons, banana, spice and a touch of bubble gum - nice! Light-bodied; Mild malty flavour from wheat and citrus with a touch of spice, some yeast and more banana flavours than in the smell. Aftertaste shows a nice mellow finish with some light alcohol, a dose of yeast and more mellow wheat characteristics. Overall, a pretty nice beer - definitely shows well in the summer heat, but the character complexity really comes out! I sampled this 500 mL bottle purchased from German Gourmet in Falls Church, Virginia, sampled on 07-August-2009 at home in Washingotn.

Pours pale gold into a shaker. Bright white head recedes to skim surface. Ginger, rosemary, caraway and anise aromas. Grainy green effervescent tea upfront with a lasting sour perfume finish.

16.9 ounce bottle from Wine Warehouse in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a hazy pale peach color with a thin head. Average head retention and lacing. Aroma is dominated by the ginger but also has some sage and lavender like herbal notes. Taste is very dry with strong citrus and ginger notes as well as a faint nondescript herbalness. Thin bodied. Interesting.

Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Pours a hazy white with a white head over it. Aroma is salty, gatorade powder, chamomile, bay leaves, fennel, pepper, ash, caramel, and other various spices. Taste is very herbal with rosemary, fig and very much tea like. Light carbonation. Very strange and I am glad to have had it.

Bottled. An unclear golden beer with a white head. The aroma is sweet with light acidic notes combined with notes of malt, which also pretty much sums up the flavor. Thanks Papsoe for sharing.
