Cask at Hops, Crewe. Pours almost black with minimal scummy cream head. There’s roasted malts in the aroma plus ginger and parkin. In the mouth it is quite sweet, but the most noticeable feature is the watery texture. Flavour has roasted malts and chocolate with hints of ginger. Later on there are traces of coffee and dark fruits as well, leading to a slightly fruity finish. This is reasonable though somewhat thin.

The last unrated beer still hanging around my Ratebeer app, so the backlog finally cleared! Cask pulled at an interesting locals place called the The Cottage in Norwich last September. Golden-blonde with a small bubbly-frothy head. Hoppy session brew, so very easy textured and easy drinking.

The film King Rat could easily have been called Hell Rat given its depiction of a WWII Japanese prisoner of War camp, with one of George Segal's best cinematic appearances. Over-carbonated here at the Flying Horse Hotel, the beer looks like it will take off soon! Maintains flavour though, big head, lager nose, but does have a more 'Helles' taste.
