Description
Founded by local home brewers in 2009, Straight to Ale has quickly grown to become one of Alabama’s largest production breweries.
In the summer of 2016 we opened our new 55,000 square foot facility at Campus 805, reclaiming a long vacant Middle School campus on the edge of downtown Huntsville and turning it into a thriving community of breweries, bars, restaurants, and local shops. At this new location, we expanded to include cider and mead production along with distilled spirits (Shelta Cavern Spirits), a scratch made kitchen (Ale’s Kitchen), a pinball arcade and pool room (Ronnie Rayguns).

12oz can on 7th Aug 2019; GBBF. Rye? I got that distinct Rye aroma and taste in this sweet Dubbel. Red hue to the brown body, cream coloured head. Along with the Rye esters and flavours there was a molasses feel to both the nose and sweetness within the brew. Some fruity elements too.

Can from Antarabangsa, Penang. Poured a clear dark brown colour with a mostly lasting frothy light tan head. The aroma is roasty malt, lactose, light chocolate, liqouirce. The flavour is moderate to light sweet, light liquorice bitter, with a roasty, creamy lactose, liqouirce, light dry coffee charcoal palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Can at Kowaliga on Lake Martin. Amber with a frothy head. Aroma full of pine with honey undertones. Very bitter in taste. This is headache beer for me—a load of hops with no real malty base. No thanks.

Not a bad pils, offering up a pleasant mix of grain, grass, toast, and floral hops, with notes of toffee and apple on the back end underlined by hints of lemon. Not all that attractive of a pint, and the nose is no great shakes, but otherwise a very drinkable beer.

Can shared with the Kuala Lumpur Tasting Crew. Poured a hazy golden colour with a thin broken white head. The aroma is toffee caramel malt, veggie. The flavour is light sweet with a grainy, herbal veggie palate. Medium bodied with flat carbonation. Not good. Not good at all. What went wrong?

330ml can from the Great Beer Bar, Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. Poured a murky medium brown with a fizzy, short-lived, off white head. The aroma is toffee caramel malt, light red berry fruits, earthy mineral. The flavour is moderate sweet with a light, crisp, fruity, light boozy, woody hop bitter palate and a lingering bitter finish. Medium bodied with average carbonation and a frothy mouthfeel.
