Description
As the name implies, Felinfoel brewery is situated in ‘Felinfoel’, a small village adjoining Llanelli in Wales. Historians tell us that in the old days the inn brewed its own beer, but only during the winter months. The keeping qualities and the strength of the beers, therefore, were of prime importance and the popularity of ‘Felinfoel Beer’ led to the local inn brewing for other inns in the locality. This, in turn, led to the present brewery being built in 1878 to accommodate demand.

They became the first UK brewery to can beer in 1935. Still family owned, this is now Wales's oldest brewery.

500ml bottle: BBE March 19. Drank at home on 24th June 18. Red hue to the brown body, beige head. A malty brew with a caramel leaning in the aroma and sweetness within the taste. My sweet tooth liked it, but the beer is a bit 'one dimensional' really.

500ml bottle from Aldi. Poured a murky medium amber with a thin broken white head. The aroma is light caramel grainy malt, weedy hop. The flavour is moderate to light bitter with a skunky watery malt, metallic, light floral hop bitter palate. Medium to light bodied with average carbonation. Pretty awful. Poured most of the bottle. Might try again one day to check if this is really what the brewer intended or if this was just a bad bottle.

Quickly getting through thirds of beers I’ve been gifted and are taking up room. Whilst pret t weak, there’s a pleasant sweetness to the aroma, makes me think of marzipan or a glue stick. Medium chestnut. Thin bright white head. Sweet and sour. Some bitterness into the finish. Fruit. Acidic berries. Quite light. Watery. Lively carbonation, gives the acidity some edge. Dry low key finish. Much better than I was expecting. Perhaps subdued but an easy drinker.
