Pours an almost clear copper colour with a medium sized creamy off-white head. Aroma is fairly sweet with notes of toffee, fudge, caramel, red fruit and bread. Taste has dry dark fruits, caramel, liquorice and toasty bread. Full bodied, low carbonation with a very smooth mouthfeel. Malty beer but with an earthy hip bitterness on the finish. Very good.

Bottle from local Aldi. Has a faintly malty aroma and pours the classic ”bitter brown” with a small white head. Dried fruit (dates, raisins) are what hits the mouth first, with sweet malts underneath. A hint of bitterness around the edges too. Finish is more malty. A good solid traditional bitter – I’m giving it extra points for the absence of citrus !
