Description
As the name implies, Felinfoel brewery is situated in ‘Felinfoel’, a small village adjoining Llanelli in Wales. Historians tell us that in the old days the inn brewed its own beer, but only during the winter months. The keeping qualities and the strength of the beers, therefore, were of prime importance and the popularity of ‘Felinfoel Beer’ led to the local inn brewing for other inns in the locality. This, in turn, led to the present brewery being built in 1878 to accommodate demand.

They became the first UK brewery to can beer in 1935. Still family owned, this is now Wales's oldest brewery.

Cask at The Dog, Burton on Trent. Pours golden yellow with a small off-white head and good lacing. Not much of an aroma – only some vague hoppy character. In the mouth it is very briefly sweet and malty to start with before quickly becoming bitter with traditional hops and a hint of citrus. Later come spices and some hints of marmalade. Hops increase in strength leading to a dry finish. This is rather nice. It is very much an old school IPA but it is well balanced and packs a punch considering it’s strength – I couldn’t believe it was only 3.6% !

500ml bottle from Morrisons online. Clear amber with nice creamy looking off-white head. Little on the nose except malts and a touch of metallic hops. Bready malts, nuts, hint of toffee and a very off-putting metallic note. Quite dry. I want to like it but I don't.
