Description
After a great reception from his hobby as an enthusiastic amateur brewer, Toby Mackenzie and his wife Caroline decided to expand and go full time establishing the award winning Red Willow brewery in 2010. Their aim was to make the types of beer that they like - full of flavour yet easy to drink. Red Willow now offer a range of beers that can be found in many local pubs and shops in cask

Cask at the Bow Bar. Pours clear dark brown with a thin beige head. Aromas of light roast, treacle toffee. Taste is more of the same. Light sweet finish.

Ayrshire Coastal Walking Mini Break Beer#39. The last beer of the mini-break before the final train home. A black porter with sweet dark malts, which go a long way in hiding its strength, but giving it a good body, and a fairly crisp feeling keg pour in this instance. A little gritty in taste, some might find this one a little rich in design.

On cask at Cafe Beermoth in Manchester. A dark brown/black coloured pour with a huge beige creamy head on top. Roasty, malty, chocolate, caramel, berry fruit action. Pleasant enough porter.

Hazy yellow-gold in colour. Last night wasn't dreamless and involved hiding something in a cave of mud! Back to reality here with a crisp, mildly carbonated keg pour, which is easy-drinking and is citrus based, although much blander in taste than its aroma in this respect. There's pine available in both.

Cask @ Salopian. Pours unclear dark, tan head. No salted caramel coming through but definitely quite chocolatey.. as it is it's quite decent, but marked down for the lack of salted caramel.

Dark brown, near black black, with a frothy tan head and a chocolate and coffee aroma. Smooth and creamy, roasted malt, caramel sweetness, coffee bitterness and a dry bitter finish.

Cask at Hops, Crewe. Pours a very dark reddish-brown with a sizable frothy tan head and good lacing. The aroma has malts and chocolate alongside some sweet nuttiness. /in the mouth it is surprisingly bitter with a little underlying sharpness. Flavour initially is malts, almonds and oranges with hints of dark fruits and molasses coming later. Bitterness also gives way to sweetness in a fruity and slightly dry finish. This is decent – I like how it changes character as you progress down the glass.
