Slightly hazy golden colour. Earthy-spicy hop nose. Grapefruity hops and accompanying bitterness. Light wheaty notes, with hints of bread and orange. Slighty crisp finish.

Restrained aroma. Hazy dark amber. Fruit flavors with herbal notes. A bit fizzy mouthfeel, light body. Grassy aftertaste.

12-November-2003: Batch #1452:
95% opaque black body with a medium-sized light brown head. Aroma of oats (no surprise huh?), bread, coffee and a bit of chocolate. Medium-bodied; Sweet and bitter initial taste, all in one. Not much else is picked up in the taste, some smokey tones and some astringency. Aftertaste shows strong signs of bitterness and a slight cherry flavour. Dry & alcoholic finish...but not too bad. Overall, about what I had expected from this beer-as I knew it was coming out soon! I bought this twelve ounce bottle from Beers of the World in Rochester, New York and sampled it on 04-December-2003.

Dark amber colour with a super dense tan head. Great fragrant aroma of strawberries, caster sugar, caramel, malt and english hops. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong malt flavour perfectly balanced with citrusey and english hops. Aftertaste shows a lot of the complexities as well as a good hop kick. Overall, this was a lot better than expected, and actually one of my favourite offerings from this brewery. Definately worth picking up if you can find it. I bought this twelve ounce bottle (bottled on 04-November-2003 batch #1448) at Beers of the World in Rochester, New York.

Mmmm...I enjoyed this Oktoberfest. Poured with a clear copper body topped by a thin off-white head. Typical malt-heavy sweet Oktoberfest aroma. Sweet malt flavors nicely balanced by floral hops, perfectly complementing the more "standard" malt flavors. Medium body. An interesting interpretation. I'm surprised this is held in such low regard.

2002 Bottle: This really is not what I have come to expect from an Oktoberfest beer. That's not to say this was an awful beer, just not the usual style you would expect under than moniker. Copper-colored with a somewhat creamy off-white head. Hops are predominant in the aroma, but there is some malt and caramel in the background. Medium-bodied with flavors of hops, grain and malt. The aftertaste is lightly hopped and a little spicy. Interesting take on the Oktoberfest style, but really nothing special.

Orangey amber colour with a terrific slightly dense off-white head made up of small bubbles. Smells of a bunch of malt and a bunch of hops. Some subtle spiceyness is also thrown in the mix...pretty nice! Medium-bodied; Spicey start with cinnamon or nutmeg, moving on to the malt background and an interesting metallic bitterness that lingers and is very noticeable on the roof of the mouth and on the ancillary portion of the palate. Good look and smell, but not a good taste. The aftertaste is a bit malty with a tiny amount of hops and that metallic twang that just rides in your mouth. Overall, not a great Marzen, but one you should try if you have it available and appreciate the style. I bought my bottle at Beers of the World in Rochester, New York.

Bottled. Nut brown with off-white small head. Aroma of crystal malt. Roasty, sweet and clean with hard mouthfeel. Nice citrusy hop. Sugary finish with below average bitterness.

Bottle. It's not my style of beer, but for those of you who like a copper/amber/slightly malty beer, you might enjoy this one. But while it did finish easy, there wasn't much too it.
