A very nice English style barleywine, but more hops than most of that style. Mildly sweet and very little carbonation. High abv is well hidden by the aroma and flavor. A good balance of hop bitterness and malt sweetness, and a smooth palate. Thick and rich.

Bottle from GBBF. Black with brown edges, lasting tan head. Yes, I’ve had it before and yes I know that I like it. So what do I actually make of it? The aroma is immaculate. Espresso coffee, dark choc, but it’s so well balanced and wants you to drink it. Invites you in. Bit of wood. I love it before I try it. The coffee flavour is just gorgeous. Bit too much carbonation to start with but this settles down perfectly. It’s an incredible beer. Lovely grainy feel on the end. Big, wonderful and so much choccy coffee its unbelievable.

From tap at Lord Nelson and served in a Mikkeller glass. Pours slight hazy orange and with head (poured to the top). Soft peach fruity aroma. Way too cold served. Flavour is, not unexpected, heavy heavy hoppy with a solid fruity flavour of peach, grapefruit and pine. Bitter and fruity lingering finish, quite dry. Very very delicious. But to be honest, half pint is fantastic, full pint is cloying, brutal and somewhat just too much hops. Interestingly this tastes like a pale ale, just with an overdose of US hops.

Nearly opaque pour, with a frothy brown lace - very roasty, nearly smoky aroma, with notes of vanilla, nutmeg, cinammon, hints of wet wood - nice dry roasty flavor - hints of smoke, nutmeg, leather, woody character - light acidity and subtle floral notes come out of nowhere, making it even more interesting - quite nicely balanced - I’d buy this again, regardless of the price tag.

bottle, 2007. A good porter. Well balanced, and easy to drink- if you like this kind of beer it will be a treat. Some of the porter beers out there are a bit more experimental, this one i guess, most ppl will love. It looks good too, with the dark foam indicating you’re goin’ to get some.. My first mikkeler but certainly not my last.

(Bottle 75 cl) Pours completely opaque, pitch black with a dense, creamy, light brown head that leaves a solid and very dense lacework. Lightly burned - but also vinous - and tar-like aroma. Quite full-bodied with lots of burned malt and then some vinous, coughing syrup style notes. A little ashy also - and hence not really your typical Porter. Malt astringent finish with a solid alcohol presence. 251207

[Draugt at Ølbaren] Red brown beer with off white head. Sweet malty aroma with plums, toffee and spices. Sweet flavor with overripe fruits and a alcoholic finish. Rather boozy and unbalanced.

Thus ends my New Year’s weekend - 12.7 ounce, corked and caged bottled - ruby-colored beer with just the hint of a lacing - tangy, nearly tart, citric aroma at first, but a long draw of air up the nose reveals cherries, fig, caramel, sherry, alcohol/rum - some dry sherry notes at first, followed by bright citrus notes, some mildly tart cherries - a sweeter, caramel aspect arrives later, bringing with it darker fruits (raisins) and heavier liquor flavors (rum and brandy) - there are some good things happening, but the flavors are not entirely well-integrated, and it’s a little hot - it seems designed to age, but has been released too young.

Fiery orange pour, with a small rin of soapy lace - citrus and floral aroma that explodes out of the glass, with some grapefruit pulp tanginess and underlying caramel malt - nice, bracing bitterness up front, which returns in the finish, bookending the experience - in between, biscuity malts come to the fore briefly, and some earthy citrus rinds/pulp - a very mild caramel sweetness keeps the hops in check - slightly tangy and quite spicy on the back end - well done.
