Description
Foam. It's always been an unconscious calling like drifting into a cumulus cloud bank on a sun-drenched day, or collapsing in a frothy curl of a breaking wave. Foam; it's natural beauty that rises up and is here and gone in a moment in time. I have spent my working life in foam, beer foam that is, brewing beer, conjuring up mixtures of malt and hops to ferment into a crowning moment of beer. Great beer has always sat under foam. Foam. It's not one ingredient that gives stability; it's many interwoven to create a structure of strength pouring out visual excitement. As I sit for a time, I enjoy that moment. All that remains is the lacing that adorns the empty glass and the making of a great memory. Until next time, see you under the Foam...

Appearance - 8 | Aroma - 9 | Flavor - 8 | Texture - 8 | Overall - 8.5

On tap at the brewery.
They poured this into a tall tulip.
The appearance was a hazy glossy yellow color. Thin finger of white head. Delicate lacing.
The smell starts off with fresh sweet danky onion rolling into some sweet fresh tropical fruits. Delicate resin underneath.
The flavor brings it all together allowing a nice gentle stickiness of the tropical fruits and resin bitterness to combine nicely. Combined bitter resin to sly tropical sweet aftertaste with the finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a nice sipping to sessionable bitter feel to it. Carbonation seems good for the style.
Overall, fantastic DIPA that I would love to have again.

On tap at the brewery.
This was poured into a tulip.
The appearance was a glossy burnt orange color with a bar pour’s kind of slim white head that dissipated at a nice pace. Light lacing.
The aroma had bitter orange peel up front, sweet pulpy juice. Citrus hops play with a slight biscuity underneath.
The flavor takes in all of the previously mentioned aromas nicely and allows them to blend nicely on into the aftertaste and finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a nice sessionability about it. Carbonation seems good for what it is. Overall, I say this was a really nice AIPA that I would have again.

Appearance - 8 | Aroma - 8 | Flavor - 8 | Texture - 8 | Overall - 8.5

On tap at the brewery.
This was poured into a tulip.
The appearance was a hazy burnt yellow to orange color with a thin finger’s worth of white foamy head that dissipated at a nice even pace.
The smell started off with a big and bright full fledged citrus crisp sweet pulp. A low key amount of juiciness slides in nicely. Bitter rind-like qualities. Subtle fresh cut grass. And then a sly amount of bitter pine underneath. Some berries (Blackberry/ blueberry tart to sweetness).
The flavor takes in all of the previously mentioned flavors and blends together very well. Quick sweet juicy to pulp-like structured aftertaste, nice and refined. Juicy finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a nice sessionability about it. Carbonation rides nicely underneath.
Overall, though poured into a tulip, I still get what’s going on and thought this was a nice APA, well worthy of having again.

Appearance - 8 | Aroma - 8 | Flavor - 9 | Texture - 8 | Overall - 9

On tap at the brewery.
This was poured into a tall tulip (or maybe stemmed pilsener, depending upon how one looks at it).
The appearance was obviously a beautiful hazy purple with a finger’s worth of a foamy head. Delicate fade of the head produces a nice filmy messy lace.
The smell starts off with a big burst of fresh sweet grass, subtle spice, light funk. Sweet and tart raspberry graced the underneath side and sets forth in the balance as it warms.
The flavor follows suite with the crisp edge of the berries coming to fruition to display their power amongst a light funk. Grassiness still comes back with the spice and settles in nicely in the aftertaste and slyly moves in on the finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a decent sessionably sweet crisp almost refreshing feel to it. Carbonation hits light. Tartness allows a nice harsh edge hitting my tongue nice and appropriate.
Overall, for a saison, yeah, it’s a bit different but hey, I get what the brewer seems to want to do with this, so when it’s this damn hot out, maybe I don’t want a too true to style saison, cause this one, well, you’ll definitely get your Vitamin C and be kept well hydrated. Of course, I’d have this again especially this time of year.

On tap at the brewery.
They poured this into a tall tulip (maybe stemmed pilsener).
The appearance was a hazy burnt yellow to orange color with a finger’s worth of white foamy head. Adequate sly to thin foamy lacing.
The smell had a huge stiff farmhouse funk up front bursting over some fresh sweet grassiness. Delicate black pepper. Refined sweet citrus pulp. Balanced bitternesss.
The flavor takes in all previously mentioned flavors - nice funk with the sweet, subtle sour and then the spice. Sly breadiness lingers and slides together to bring into aftertaste (quite subtle yet really good). Semi-sticky to wet finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body. Spiciness is there but semi-contained harsh bitterness of the citrus rind invades to bring about the balanced sweetness.
Overall, damn nice saison, one of those Summer saisons that has a nice refreshing aspect to it. Would love to have again.

Draught at the brewery, 7/8/16.
Another heavily hazy, New England IPA with a deep brass-bronze tint to it and a good-sized white head showing moderately strong retention.
For their three-word commercial descriptions, Foam does a pretty good job of describing their beers! While I’d say it’s much less piney than it is citrusy and dank, it still has a bit more of an edge to it than pavement with more earthy character breaking through from the yeast and light grain and biscuit from the malt. Ruby red grapefruit and a healthy dose of juicy pineapple with no alcohol or flaw.
Soft, malty texture balances the bitterness easily as strong, spicy, dank notes mix with plentiful citrus. There’s still a good deal of juiciness to go around and the finish dries out pleasantly with more earthiness and crackery malts lingering alongside the dank character. No alcohol or flaw. Very well-done and drinkable.

Draught at the brewery, 7/8/16.
Thoroughly hazy, marigold-to-light-amber with a peachy-canteloupe resemblance and a medium-sized, well-retained white head atop.
Ahhhhh yes, that’s the ticket. A fully-realized New England juice bomb here and I couldn’t have been more thrilled with it. Right up there with Trillium/TH/Alchemist/HF and the like, with intensely juicy aromatics showcasing watermelon, ruby red grapefruit, mango and pineapple. Sweet, succulent, honey-like malts lie behind it, supporting the juicy notes easily while no alcohol or flaw is noted. Clean yeast at this brewery, to the max. Couldn’t really lock on their house character, if any, but that’s probably more from having very strong IPAs and a bold-flavored saison and gose.
Incredibly soft, malty texture full of tight carbonation. Great attenuation, with nectarine, mango and melon and a near perfect amount of citrus and bitterness balancing. Really glad we stopped here and excited to get back and try more. These guys know what’s up as far as making top-notch IPAs.

Appearance - 10 | Aroma - 7 | Flavor - 8 | Texture - 8 | Overall - 7.5

Draught at the brewery, 7/8/16.
Heavily hazy, borderline soupy, peachy-gold with a strong brass tint to the body. White head atop is rocky and shows moderate to moderately strong retention.
After the slightly over-adjuncted saison and gose, I was a little nervous, but still hopeful for the best from what I expected to be New England IPAs. Not disappointed. Having Built to Spill and Pavement side-by-side proved to give the edge to Pavement by a noticeable but not huge margin. This one was the more dry, slightly more citric of the two, with more understated, tangy, sweaty citra and pineapple. A bit more sparsely malted, it was still soft in the mouth, yet more dry and considerably less juicy. Still, nothing to scoff at, the hop flavors and aromatics were all developed deftly, with a good knowledge of appropriate bittering additions and a very liberal use of whirl and dry hop. As well, the beer is clean and shows no sign of alcohol.

Appearance - 8 | Aroma - 8 | Flavor - 7 | Texture - 8 | Overall - 7

Draught at the brewery, 7/8/16. Clear (chill haze), copper-golden body has a small, off-white head atop showing moderate to low retention. Big melon notes in the nose are balanced by a deep salinity. Smells strong of the watermelon, but it’s authentic, fresh and hard to not love. Honey, light grain and bread behind it help dry things out a bit as very gentle tartness tries (and fails) to take hold. No alcohol or flaw. Again, I do love the watermelon flavor and it goes wonderfully with the saltiness, but I still think it’s just a bit too prominent. Tartness on the end could use a boost as well, and perhaps the low amounts of lactic character, relative to the style, also aid the watermelon in seeming too domineering. Still, tight carbonation, honey, biscuit and salt do provide moderate dryness and the beer is still quite enjoyable, as long as you like lots of watermelon. Could see a full glass of this getting quite fatiguing, though. 7/3/7/3/14 Rerate on draught at the brewery 7/6/24. Still a shit ton of watermelon and I understand my earlier rating, though this one feels a bit more balanced, salty and just a hint tarter. Though I could still see more acidity elevating this.

Appearance - 8 | Aroma - 6 | Flavor - 6 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 5.5

Draught at the brewery, 7/8/16.
Deep canteloupe-golden body is thoroughly hazy but sports a large, well-retained, off-white head.
Vanilla, honey, buttercream, white bread and even a touch of cereal all announce a very malty nose. Peppercorn done pretty restrainedly, and what’s there helps balance the sweeter malt tones. I guess this has actual pear in it as well, though it comes off more melon-like. Not sure what other spices are in this thing but there’s A LOT going on in the nose. I think the saison element definitely gets a little lost in the shuffle, unfortunately. Clean, though, with no alcohol.
Big, dextrinous, malty body shows strong, tight carbonation and medium attenuation. Fruity apple-pear and pink peppercorn attempt to balance the big body, trying to put a dent in some of these sugars. I don’t think they’re quite successful in the end, as a fair amount of vanilla-honey-caramel-like sugariness builds up on the palate. I do like the undercurrents of the saison character, though. Seems pretty legit; peppery, no clove or bubble gum and with light fruit esters and earthiness. Unfortunately it’s just a bit too staunchly malty-sweet. Alcohol catches up with you, as well.
