Can from To Øl Webshop, 7% alc. Dark red, almost no head, red wine nose with some sour notes. The flavor is blackcurrant, pretty dry, a bit thin on body. Interesting experiment I'd say, across between wine, beer, and cider.

The ancient cider, though technically more a kind of wine to me, has been enjoying a remarkable revival in the wake of the craft beer movement, mostly due to its association with beer in English pubs; there have even been crossover effects, like applying the ‘eisbocking’ technique to them or, as in this case, (dry-)hopping them. Thanks to tderoeck for sharing the can. Some very thin strings of tiny bubbles are present in a hazy peach-hued orange blonde drink, obviously without a head. Aroma of dried and wrinkled apples, a very odd smell of liverwurst (not kidding!), moldy old apple peel, dust and old cardboard, old bread, unripe mandarin. Softly tart onset, stale apple juice effects, sweet apple-y core; no carb, soft and slick body, a tad vinous. Old white wine-like effects turn up further on, paired with this oniony, again liverwurst-like retronasal aroma which I can only ascribe to the hops that were added; bitterness remains very limited (after all only dry-hopping was applied here) so that the flavour as such remains quite juicy and sweet-sourish, with a kind of dustiness trailing behind I would personally associate with (stress?) ageing. Interesting to have a dry-hopped cider for once even if cider will never be my cup of tea, but difficult to judge, not only because I do not know how to rate cider but also because this one feels as if it tastes and smells very different from what the makers intended. Should revisit one in better condition if I ever come across it again…
