[330ml bottle from Chiltern brewery shop] Pale amber-orange with a moderate foamy off-white head. Strong floral aroma and initial taste, lots of orange and lemon in there too. Syrupy mouthfeel gives the citrus flavour a cut mixed peel quality. Bitter, dry finsh, like an IPA. No discernable alcohol hit makes this quite a dangerous beer! Interesting flavour, I rather enjoyed this.

[Gravity cask at Chiltern brewery shop] 4.9% ABV on cask. Chestnut-red with slight off-white head. SLight to moderate carbonation More like an ESB than an old ale - some bitterness, earthy, lots of fruit (apple and blackberries). Hints of plum sourness. Decent beer.

[Gravity cask at Chiltern brewery shop] Chestnut brown with a medium, frothy beige head. Glorious rich malty aroma made me desperate to get this one down my throat. Flavour isn’t quite as strong as aroma would suggest, but nevertheless it’s full of rich earthy roasted malt, plenty of nutty flavours (as the name suggests!) and a hint of chocolate. Good balance of creamy sweetness and dry bitterness in the finish. Good mild, this one.

[Gravity cask at Chiltern brewery shop] Amber-brown with small white head. Earthy and woody, lots of crisp autumn leaves, hints of fruit and sulphur. Some bitterness in finish. OK bitter.

[Cask at brewery shop] Slight biscuity malt aroma and flavour, but unpleasantly bitter. Smooth and easy to drink, but in the end very bland and rather watery. Not great.

BCA, consumed 15-01-09 A bottle that I had around my next door neighbours and methinks that I may have actually been the one to have taken this around there for a beer festival meeting and forgot to rate it until now. Pours dak brown with an off white head. Good fullsome stout that whilst carrying a decent spiciness also had a nice earthy quality. Plenty of maltiness, even a bit creamy at times, the inevitable chocolate comes through but this was actually a really decent beer. A6 A4 F7 P4 OV15

[330ml bottle.] Chestnut with a thin cream head; rich vinous aroma; silky mouthfeel, with raisin and roast nut flavours, but with a raw edge; sour finish with lots of warmth. Rather light for a porter, but very pleasant.

[50cl bottle.] Gold with a rapidly fading white head; toffee aroma; rich earthy malts, smooth and acidic, with good underlying bitterness and a citrus finish.

[500ml bottle.] Reddish copper with a thick cream head that rapidly fades; stewed fruit aroma; fruity malt body with a peppery bitterness to finish. Pleasant enough, but probably better from the cask.(5/3/6/3/12=2.9) [Cask at the Bell, Waltham St Lawrence.] A bright reddish copper pour with a loose cream head; fruity aroma; malty body with red fruit and chocolate ; a light earthy bitterness, and then a pleasant fruity chocolate finish. (6/4/7/4/14=3.5)

[500ml bottle - bottle conditioned.] Deep chocolate brown in colour, with a creamy tan head that quickly fadied to a ring; lactic aroma with some chocolate; silky milk choclate flavour and texture with a smokey dryness. Warming finish with hazelnuts and earthy malts. An excellent stout.
