Description
Hawkstone is the brainchild of Jeremy Clarkson and Rick and Emma from the Cotswold Brew Co. Having put blood, sweat and tears into cultivating his malting barley, Jeremy was determined that it be put to good use, so resolved to supply it directly to a local brewery to turn into lager. He was introduced to Rick and Emma from the Cotswold Brewery by the landlord at their local and they hit it off immediately. Like Jeremy, they’re committed to supporting local agriculture but they’re not just good people, they’re also excellent brewers. They created Hawkstone Lager - a brew of such exquisite quality that Jeremy decided to invest.

Bottle from local garden centre that has now got a few beers on (I.e. these and Hogs Back), having had none for a while. Now 4.8%. Aroma is woody, with malts and some citrus. Clear copper gold. Thin foamy white head. Medium-heavy bitter. Resinous. Earthy. Citrus edge. Sherbert. Light-medium bodied. Slick. Average-fizzy carbonation. Long dry somewhat astringent finish. Better than I was expecting. Bitter and sessionable.

330ml bottle: BBE January 2024, drank at home on 27th May 2023. This was a present from my London based brother Matthew, cheers Bro! Poured into an old Duvel glass, it's bright golden in colour, clean and clear, on top a snow white blanket of tight bubbles. Bitter with a dry finish is my first impression after just two sips, yip it's dry tasting and bitter. In fact I had to get some Cashew Nuts to help be finish the bottle.

500ml bottle from Co Op. Clear golden yellow appearance, medium carbonation. Bears that familiar Weston's apple sweetness, which I haven't tasted in some time. Medium sweet, sweetened apple fruit, clean, balanced, light syrupy moments. Fine.
