Description
Cellarmaker Brewing Company has been in the works for quite some time. Look for our beers to start making their way around better known beer bars and beer focused restaurants in San Francisco starting in September.
We have a tasting room in the same building as the brewery and will offer tasters, pints, and growlers. Some beers may be bottled further down the line but for now it's all draft. The only way you can take our beer away is in the form of a growler - which by the way, is a great way to drink beer!
Look for a focus of plenty of hoppy beers, belgian-style saisons, dark beers, and sour beers. We are huge fans of wine and bourbon barrel aged beers as well so it's only natural for us to have a barrel program. Think bourbon barrels loaded with big chewy imperial stouts, excessively hopped IPAs, fruited sour beers, and funky saisons. This is what we love. This is what we are all about. We hope you are too!
Please follow along for the ride as we build San Francisco's next great brewery.
Cheers!

On tap at Lupulo. Aroma has a medium cracker malt and biscuit notes. Moderate hop character with lots of tropical fruit, a bit of grapefruit and pineapple, and some melon notes. Puts a cloudy, pale yellow gold work a medium sized, white head that recedes steadily to the edges. Moderate lacing and faint legs. Flavor is really nice with a light sweetness, and some cracker and biscuit flavor. Medium bitterness, but soft instead of harsh. Lots of juicy hop flavor work citrus, tropical fruit and melon. Mouthfeel is medium light bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a pretty nice beer with lots of hop flavor and aroma. Nice, balanced malt notes and really soft water character.

The beer is nearly black. A dark shade of brown shines through with each sip. The head is small, short-lived and mocha brown. Some lacing sticks to the walls of the glass. Big milk chocolate aroma. Really big. Milk chocolate melted in milk, drizzled with caramel and vanilla. Smells like a sweet, rich dessert. Very mild roast. Some dark fruity notes - raisins, dates, sugary dessert things. Very nice chocolate, full and rich. Taste starts with caramel sweetness right before the milk chocolate pours in and takes over. Like a scoop of ice cream in hot cocoa. Very mild herbal, citrus hops in the finish with a faint roast note. Excellent vanilla note. Cleans up pretty well. No cloying syrup flavor or feeling. Full mouthfeel. Luxurious and smooth. No booziness. The flavors come out a lot more as it warms - served too cold. Another drinker here described it as a beer to have in front of a campfire. Very good stuff. Between this and Coffee & Cigarettes, I’m impressed with Cellarmaker’s stout game.

Not totally sure if this should an IPA or an APA, but it’s in that general area. Pours a bright and relatively clear. Not much cloudiness in this one. Just a touch of haze. The color is coppery, orangey gold. Nice enough white head. A bit rocky. Puffs up easily enough and leaves some decent lacing. OK retention. The aroma has citrus and tropical fruit hoppiness. It seems like a blending of grapefruit rind/pine hop flavors with brighter tangerine/pineapple/kiwi/mango. Really nice mix. Everything plays well together. The sweeter mango and kiwi are particularly strong but benefit from the heavier, more resin-y flavors in the background. Peaches, strawberries, rainier cherries. There’s a lot of fruit complexity, really. Little to no malt character, besides some muted sweetness. Taste starts off with mild pale malt sugars behind bright strawberry, mango, peach, pineapple, tangerine hops. Finishes with those more bitter flavors, grapefruit rind, pine, acidic pineapple, tart berries. Fairly dry. Very mild bitterness until the finish, which has a nice bite to it. No booze or other off notes. Mouthfeel is light and slick with hop oiliness. Very easy to drink. I’m easily getting through my growler. Normal carbonation. This is an excellent hoppy beer. It’s got a great blend of hop flavors and a nice light feel. Tasty.

Cellarmaker Moonage Daydream - The color is a pale gold, light honey. It’s quite cloudy, which makes the color look dull, flat. The head is white and composed of tiny bubbles. It’s somewhat vigorous. Moderate lacing, decently sticky. Fades after a minute or two. The aroma is fairly mild. Not a ton of hops though more comes out as it warms. Solid tropical flavors. Mango, passionfruit, kiwi. The malt is a bit more forward than usual. Just a fresh base malt flavor with some spice. Similar taste. I think they were shooting for easy to drink. It’s mildly bitter. Some nice hop flavor. Similar to the smell with a bunch of fruit. Quite dry. Neutral yeasty flavor. Aftertaste is a touch grassy. Light mouthfeel. Kinda fizzy at least relative to other Cellarmaker offerings. A touch of hop oiliness. Solid pale. Easy to drink.

Pours a bright golden yellow. Somewhat hazy. I can see the bottom of this little glass easily enough. Settles out even more after a couple minutes. Medium vigor head, a white mass of little bubbles. Good lacing. Aroma is fairly standard fare for a saison with a twist of brett funk. Tastes like Dupont plus brett but I’m terrible at that game. Light pineapple, just a floral fruit note in the background. Light farmyard flavors. Nice and dry in the taste. Fresh grain. Nice, sharp peppercorn. Very light feel. Prickly carbonation.

The beer’s color is a muddy brown. Probably dark brown on a normal scale of brown shades, but medium to a shade light for a brown ale. The head is a nice light, creamy khaki. It’s a blanket of foam. Some lacing, decent retention. The aroma is nutty and earthy. Classic brown ale flavors. Background of toffee and biscuit sweetness, light and bready. Mild cola - very nice compared to how you often find this flavor in the style. Lightly sweet. Similar malt flavor, which works quite well. It’s a dried out doughy, light caramel flavor. Mushrooms, earth, light wood, walnut. Mild hop bitterness in the finish, seems a bit citric. Finishes pretty dry, or at least the hops clean up the sweetness. Normal carbonation. Fairly light feel. Some decent body to the beer. This is a tasty brown ale. It doesn’t particularly stand out, besides as a well made example of the style. Pleasant and easy to drink.

Pours black. Small brown head. Fades to a ring of bubbles after a minute. Aroma is chocolate, roast, fudge, caramel, cola, cherries, vanilla. Nice and sweet with plenty of chewy dark malt sweetness. Taste has more of that fudgey chocolate. Lots of caramel with a little too much cola for me, just a bit. Mild roast. A little bit of cola. Honey. Mild herbal-ish hops, maybe. Good dose of vanilla, fairly fruity with cherry, plum, raspberry. Finish has a bit more roast. Mild hop bitterness to clean things up. Thick mouthfeel. A bit syrupy but not cloying, really. Relatively low carbonation. Fairly creamy. Smooth and full. Tasty enough but not mind blowing.

The beer is a medium yellow, a slightly overripe banana color. It?s quite hazy. I can see through the glass but can only make out shapes. Head of fine white foam. Moderate lacing, decent retention. Aroma is an interesting mix of flavors. There?s some nice tropical fruit, not as juicy as most of their beers, an earthy, spicy flavor that I can?t tell the origin of, and some fresh, almost wheaty grain - maybe, that?s just the spiciness, though. Guava, mango, pineapple, pear, blackberry. Taste is a bit more fruit with less spice. There?s a grainy quality that I don?t love. Mild bitterness. Finishes pretty dry after some initial malt sweetness. Refreshing, though it is rather hot today and it?s just nice to have a cold drink. Light mouthfeel, a touch grainy. Light prickly carbonation. Good beer but not my favorite of their hoppy pales. Edit: New batch. Much better. Lots more tropical fruit in the aroma. Solid earthy, spicy background. Very tasty.

Pours a bright, medium shade of gold. Light haze settles out after a minute, leaving pretty good clarity. White head. Fine foam. Decent retention, some lacing. Aroma is fruity saison flavors with a light funk and some mild malt character. Background of fresh grain. Vinous. Mild vanilla. A bit perfumey in a good way - I’m an awesome writer. Lime peel. Light medicinal note that actually works quite well. Honey. Floral flavors. Hard to describe but quite nice. Taste starts with light pale malt sweetness, a smooth sugary note. Very mild bitterness. Light dusty flavor. Honey and farmhouse funk. Normal carbonation. Smoother than expected. Just a bit more body than most funky saisons. Interesting contrast between the light fruity sweetness, funk and dusty bitterness. I think this will be even better with a bit more time in the bottle.

This beer pours rich yellow color, a bit darker than a banana. It’s quite cloudy. Big white head, which mostly dies away after a couple minutes. Some lacing. The aroma is a huge blast of tropical fruit. It smells like melon and kiwi juice with some fruity hoppiness. The melon and kiwi don’t even really smell hoppy. They just smell like the fruit. There’s also pineapple, tangerine, mango, raspberry and yellow grapes. Little to no malt character comes through. The taste is similar. Huge fruit flavors. It again tastes more like fruit than fruity hops. Big bright melon and kiwi, some pineapple, some orange/tangerine, a touch of pine. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if they used fruit in this beer. Carbonation is pretty normal. Some body to it. Again, it has a fruit juicey body with a little bit of graininess to it. I’m a big fan. However, I can see how it might not be universally loved by people who aren’t fans of melon. Interesting and tasty to me.
