Description

10 April 2021. Vintage 2015. Cheers to Maarten, Eduard & Domien! Intense aroma of vinegar, sour cherry, bloody iron, lemon peel, wood, horseblanket, cured meat. Taste is a very sour mix of vinegar, lemon, bloody metal, toned down by sweetish dried fruits, pear & almond. Woody, sharp vinegar finish, lingering tart red fruit. Good stuff, the ageing really did this one good although Duchesse de Bourgogne is better. Original rating: 7/4/6/3/13=3.3. 24 February 2019. Wieze Bierfestival - cheers to Meeki, Ama Deke & the lovely Anke! Nice to see this classic passing by. Clear red-brown with a lasting, small, foamy, tan head; little lacing. Aroma of bloody iron, vinegar, sour cherry, wood, red yoghurt, almond. Taste is medium funky sour, vinegar & faint varnish mixed with sour cherries & touch of almond, sweetish notes of caramel, pear, bit woody bitter, phenolic, metallic. Dryish, tart, acidic finish, cherries, vinegar, bit metallic & 'bloody'. Medium body, slick-oily texture, soft carbonation. Drinkable, just a tad too bloody.

Bottle thanks to JK, thanks! Pours a hazy red with a slight amber hue and a near white head that dissipates nearly completely. Aroma has tart cherry with oak, light funk and a hint of leaves. Flavor has a great tart cherry with some growing pie cherry and a bit of funk underlying.

The wine rounded the sour edges. Good cherry flavor.

5 January 2019. At Backdoor, Ghent. Cheers to Eurogamer crew! Beer commissioned by Franky De Smet-Van Damme, lead singer of Belgian metal group Channel Zero. Sold at Backdoor as the alias 'Dragonbeer'. Pours hazy dark brown, reddish, with a lasting, small, unstable, frothy, tan head; some lacing. Aroma of red candy, strawberry, raspberry, syrup, cherry, candi sugar, industrial red yoghurt. Taste is medium fruity sweet, lots of raspberry & strawberry candy, in a rather artifical way; light fruity & wheaty sour too with a touch of bitter cherry pits; a bit malty & yoghurty. Dryish, tart, slightly herbal hoppy finish, but lingering red fruit & candy have the final say, and a dash of not too subtle 'fruit jenever' alcohol. Medium body, slick texture, soft to flat carbonation. With a name like that one would expect a Stout or something, not an overly sweet, alcoholic, pretty straightforward Fruit Beer (think Cherry Chouffe...). Meh.

The 2012 Brew Date & 2014 Bottling Batch. Very beautiful dark red color, looks like cherry juice, Long lasting head, never fully fades. Beautiful brett and cherry balance. Aroma has some light corkiness and a very pity cherry. Flavor is low sourness and high fruit with a sharp cork and short sour finish.Really enjoyable and easy drinking kriek. Full yet light and lively but not tingling carbonation.
