Tap @ BBF ’10. Hazy golden color, short head. Aroma of grassy hop. Slight yeasty taste. Bottled version: bit dusty aroma together with grapefruit and grassy notes. Good strong bitter taste. Taste better than aroma.

Bottle from Monument in Concord, CA. Pours copper with a 3 finger foamy beige/tan head. The aroma is smoke. Medium body with foamy carbonation. Flavor is smoked cheese. It’s delicious. It’s dry with reasonable bitter, but the smokiness is the raison d’etre. Smoked gouda. Yeah!

Small to medium yellowish head over hazy copper-ochre beer. Nice grapey nose, USA hops. Madeleine cookies, cake, lighlty toasted. Seriously bitter flavour, fully hoppy, with just a slight malty-cakey sweetness, far in the background. Bit metallic, on the verge of aggressive bitterness. Few fruity impressions, orange and mandarine peel. Medium bodied, hints at astringency. Seems to lack some maltbacking. OK, it’s not a double IPA, but the bitternes gets a tad too much emphasis as it is.

Bottle from Monument in Concord, CA. 10.5% Pours hazy copper with a 3 finger foamy off-white head. Aroma is a little fruity barnyard. Medium body. Lightly foamy carbonation. Flavor is herby brown sugar. Not at all sticky. Seems like herby hop is keeping things towards bitter. Not your mother’s bw. Works well in the mouth. Flavors shift around fruity/grassy.

Medium yellow head, slightly irregular, over hazed amber beer with a mossy sheen; some lace. Beautiful USA hops nose with grapes and passion fruit, as well as something yeasty. Fruitaromas are very intense, ending in more earthy notes - excellent. Bitter-hoppy, with no exaggeration, and some dark cake behind. Again fruity and yeasty notes. Grapefruit and bitter melon; lytchee gone awry. Well bodied and very slick, refreshing, despite the power under the surface. Excellent beer, amongst the best from Kees so far. Can vie with the best American IIPA’s.

Very good, stable beige head, slightly irregular, over near-black beer, shot with some orangeish reflections. First impression is a C-hops’ nose, then the somewhat oppressive aroma of lillies, and only glimpses of smoke. Bitterish, wry, quite dry-hoppy flavour. Again just a suggestion at smokiness, whilst some dry cacao and wood are much more in the picture. Every sip gives again the aroma that reminds me of some flowers as lillies or maybe lilly-of-the-valley. Pretty light bodied, despite some slickness; stable head renders a creamy texture. Pretty spritzy carbonation. Quite nice beer, easy drinkable, no doubt. But I wonder about the very restrained smokiness - intentional or not? This way the phenols are as good as absent, but on the other hand the character might have been more outspoken, otherwise.
