Shoot....I should have read the ratings below before opening this sucker...it litteraly assaulted by face and my nasal passages. A nice dark golden orange ale with a thick lacing off white head, but huge ugly floaties at the bottom of the bottle, rather gross.Aroma of Brett assaults you very musty, but pleasant. In mouth, a rather funky Brett malt, wild ferment, some peppery hops. A rather interesting body...Having tasted the Burton Imperial Ale , I would compare this to the Burton. Not bad....but I wish I didnt loose a quarter of the bottle on my face and carpet.

The first one of these damn near exploded as soon as I opened it. Completely filling the bottle with all the yeast in the bottom. The second was much better. A beautiful amber colour with a big frothy off white head. One of the biggest i’ve seen in a while. To the nose its yeasty with fruit overtones. First sip is a little overcarbonated. Flavour of yeast fruit and bitter hops with a little smoke thrown in. The finish is bitter right through the palate with that light smoke flavour.

Morland old speckled hen. I’ve always wanted to try this stuff, but could not bring myself to buy a case of it without a taste. Finding it at my beer store allowed me a chance to buy one bottle. 12 oz clear bottle. Smells a little industrial or metallic then fades to a relatively sweet background aroma hint. Pour is orange in color, perhaps a little darkish. There is a slight froth on the top that reminds me of the way hot tea looks. First flavor is very dry lacking any sweetness. It has a whiskey like hint in there that attacks my taste buds. Rising carbonation misleads the drinker about its fizzyness, there is hardly any on the palate, below average carbonation. The taste of this does make it unique but I’m not sure if I like oily MG parts going into the brew while it’s fermenting. This tastes so much different than Hotshot ESB and Yards Extra special that I can’t even believe it’s the same style, there must be a mistake. I would say that King lager has more in common with this than other american ESB. Seriously, if a car maker could brew beer, I think this is what it would taste like. Finish is hanging and there is a spicy astringent bitterness that lingers for more than a while on the upper back of my throat. Almost like medicine. This was interesting to try but I will not buy again. Rates right down there with Whitbread, East End Bitter End and Bass. Not nearly as good as Yards extra special and Hotshot ESB by great divide.

Pours with alarge off-white head over a crystal clear, medium orange/amber body. Light toasted malt aroma with a twist of lemon. Balanced, very light flavor delivered with a smooth, dry, thin palate.

Bottle, 5.2%. Clear chestnut colour, very small head. Malty flavour with a little green apple. Not so good bottled. 5 3 5 3 12
Bottle, 5.2%. Mild caramelly aroma. Clear copper colour. Small white head. The flavour is nicely malty with a creamy finish. A little toffee, quite flavourful for an English bottled beer. Mild bitterness in the finish as well. 6 3 6 3 14

Nifty that Chris at Redbones was able to get this (and yes, I did confirm that this was not just a nitro/low-C02 keg, but an actual cask). Drunk on 11/28/06 (less than 6 hours from being tapped)
Couldnt ask for much more from the appearance. I suppose, when a British cask ale is done correctly, ie "Bright", and has a perfectly retained head that provides full lacing, it’s difficult to give it a poor score, as it is technically perfect. The rest would be adjusting it based on subjective color preference, methinks, which I don’t do. So a 5 it is. Anyways, the head is white/off-white and the body is a very deep, heavily burnished brass with light peach and copper tints. Perfectly clear with light bubbles rising sporadically.
Touches of diacetyl grace a lightly biscuit-like pale maltiness, that provides some dough, wet straw/hay and watered down buttermilk, I suppose. Hops only seem to provide bitterness, adding a dusty, pepperiness probably indicating EKGs or Saaz. Light ester fruitiness in the nose, but I thought it was muted by the creamy/doughy maltiness. Though I shouldnt imply that the nose was too sweet; it was actually quite dry and attenuated. Medium to medium-low strength overall, no flaws (mild diacetyl is hardly offensive).
Very creamy in the mouth, with light plant-like notes from the leafy, dry, dusty hops that give way to a light poundcake sweetness. A touch of hay-like graininess (or perhaps hop bitterness) perks up towards the end and delivers a refreshing enough finish. Not much flavor lingering on, a touch of sourness/mineral-like notes. Sweetness does not build up, nor does the beer seem overly dried out, nor terribly undermalted. Interesting in its extreme plainness. Fully inoffensive. I don’t know what I thought as I drank it, other than to think that it was quite quenching and gone rather quickly.

Rating 666+1 of this beer. 14.9 oz draft style can. Light copper color with creamy tight bubbled head. The lacing was more like a curtain. The aroma is sweet malts, pale malts and a touch of alcohol. The low carbonation gives this beer a creamy mouth feel. The taste is semi sweet malts in the beginning with pale and grainy malts. By midway it sweetens up and a light hoppiness enters the picture. There is a malty after taste that is really nice.

Bottle. Amber colour with a cream head; malty aroma and taste; much smoother than I remember from previous encounters. Not outstanding.

Bottle conditioned. 500 ml clear bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. Beautiful amber colour, huge and fluffy head lasts "forever". Lovely hoppy aroma, also notes of red wine vinegar, oak and barnyard. Interesting flavour with a substantial hoppy bitterness, oaky and vinous notes. Relatively dry. Notes of balsamic vinegar too, but the beer is neither sour nor sweet (does that make sense?). A very good beer in my book.

Light golden amber ale with a big bubbled white head. Strong caramel attack with candied apples. In mouth, much more agressive than bottle, nice hopping. Light but good. The Real Beer Expo - Rochester, NY, Oct. 21, 2006.
