Description
The Atlantic Brewing Company began as Acadia Brewing in 1990. At first the brewery was located inside the Lompoc Cafe in downtown Bar Harbor and had a maximum capacity of just one barrel at a time. Within a few years the demand for our beers had grown so much that we moved the brewery two doors down from the restaurant and increased our capacity to seven-barrel batches. However, by 1998, we had outgrown that facility as well and so we moved again – this time to our current location on the Knox Road. Our estate brewery was built on the grounds of a 19th century Maine farmstead, that employs native vegetation and local stonework.

Atlantic Brewing Company has created a site to develop new and exciting small batch beers only seven barrels at a time. This pilot facility allows fellow brewers from around the state, country, and world to collaborate on unique recipes and formulations in a shared environment. These brews, together with Atlantic small batch beer, are offered in a tasting room setting. Flights, large pours, and growlers are available for purchase at the bar.

This porter poured a deep black colour with a creamy, tan coloured head. A little lacing. Scents include roasted malts, wine and cocoa. First swig was delicious. Flavours of roasty malts and dark cocoa most prominent. Finish is burnt with minimal bitterness. Fantastic! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Clear golden coloured body with a peach tint and a thinnish, one centimetre tall off-white head. Aroma of fresh, light alpha acid hops with some grapefruit, pine, earth, lemons and a bit of alcohol also noticeable here. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong bitter flavour of resin, grapefruit, pine and flowers coupled with some light malt, a touch of cleanser and a lot of funky strong flavours. Aftertaste shows more of the funk and super pungency than anything else, with a good deal of alcohol, but way more alcohol and pungent bitterness coming through than anything else. Overall, a decent beer at best, but the hops are too thin, the complexity is gone and the pungency and bitterness is off the charts, and not in a traditional IPA sense, this is just pungent and strong. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Hannaford in Portland, Maine on 30-July-2016 for US$9,99/six pack sampled at home in Washington on 24-September-2016.

Bottle pour into nonic pint glass from One Stop Market. Aroma is vanilla, roasted malts, dark fruits, chocolate, coffee, caramel, but slight methane/port-o-potty smell when returning the nose to the glass. Appearance is dark brown with finger width light brown head with poor retention and trace lacing. Taste is more bitter coffee and cigarette ash than sweet dark fruits and caramel. Palate is medium bodied with thin texture, average carbonation and bitter ash finish. Overall, something slightly off in the aroma and a bit more ash flavor than I’d care for. Lives up to its name.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle with a best by of 04/24/2016. Aroma has a moderate chocolate and roast character. Some low caramel and toffee notes. Moderate dark fruit esters with plum, cherry and floral notes. Light hop notes. Pours black, but with dark brown hues and a medium sized, fairly thick, light mocha head with decent retention as it slowly recedes. Light lacing and medium small legs. Flavor has a medium sweetness with balanced chocolate and roast. Some dark fruit notes of plum, cherry and raisin with some caramel and toffee. Medium bitterness with a medium light woody, herbal hop note. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a nice, traditional American stout. Some hop notes with balanced chocolate and roast. Medium fruit and floral esters as well.
