Description
The first document attesting to a brewery in Cazeau is dated 17 october 1753. After 7 generations of family members running the brewery, the brewing ceased in 1969. In 2004, 35 years after the last brewing activities, Laurent Agache, 8th generation family member, started a partnership with his cousin and friend Quentin Mariage, to revitalize the brewery. They renovated the buildings and bought second hand equipment in the North of England. Currently, the brewery offers five beers with great character that are neither filtered nor pasteurized, all of which are refermented in the bottle.

If the brewery is keen on the traditional manufacturing process, it is nevertheless oriented towards innovation through a continuous search for new tastes so that beer aficionados will ever be surprised. At Brasserie de Cazeau, new typified hops, of various origins, are unceasingly tested and mixed in order to obtain beers with original, refined flavours.

Pretty much an opaque dark brown beer, small and short lived tan head. Smooth and slightly soft palate, mildly dry, modest fine carbonation. Soft dark malts, not really like an imperial stout but imparting some modest dark chocolate. A soft fruity tang, fairly ripe. Traces of red wine and brandy. Soft semi dry finish. A decent sipper, that leaves a warming afterglow.

Brilliant white foamy head stayed on a hazy amber coloured body. Belgian yeast & orange aroma. Medium bodied, soft on the tongue with well carbonated back. Belgian yeast, bitter citrus, chalk & lightly spiced tastes with tangy finish. Drinkable.

Bottle ordered from beers of Europe and drunk at home. Dark brown and translucent with a swirl of off-white head. I get liquorice, herbal notes, light astringency. Taste is bittersweet with more aniseedy flavours, some dusty cocoa and plums. Finish is slightly more bitter, with a medicinal character in the aftertaste. Body is very watery, especially for the ABV, with carbonation slightly heavier than average. It's surprisingly subtle for the style, and overall enjoyable.

(Draught at Akkurat, Stockholm, 18 Dec 2019) Dark brown colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, spicy nose with notes of chocolate, caramel, anise, clove and a touch of coffee. Malty taste with chocolate, caramel, a touch of smoke, liquorice, spices, anise and a balanced spicy bitterness. Almost full body, with a slight sweetness. Well balanced and really tasty. Very nice.
