Description
The first document attesting to a brewery in Cazeau is dated 17 october 1753. After 7 generations of family members running the brewery, the brewing ceased in 1969. In 2004, 35 years after the last brewing activities, Laurent Agache, 8th generation family member, started a partnership with his cousin and friend Quentin Mariage, to revitalize the brewery. They renovated the buildings and bought second hand equipment in the North of England. Currently, the brewery offers five beers with great character that are neither filtered nor pasteurized, all of which are refermented in the bottle.

If the brewery is keen on the traditional manufacturing process, it is nevertheless oriented towards innovation through a continuous search for new tastes so that beer aficionados will ever be surprised. At Brasserie de Cazeau, new typified hops, of various origins, are unceasingly tested and mixed in order to obtain beers with original, refined flavours.

A golden and murky beer, a head is small and white. Aroma has sweet fruitness, perry, some spicyness and hint of strenght of alcohol. Taste has fruitness, spicyness, and some alcohol. Medium+ bodied. Feels too heavy, otherwise tasteful beer.

Many thanks for this Tripel to Eric De Geyter. 330ml bottle. Jedno z najwiekszych rozczarowan jesli chodzi o belgijskie piwa. Jest owszem ladny spora piana, trwala, bojna i utrzymuje sie niemal do konca degustacji, Zapach likierowy, mocny alkohol, zapach cydru jablkowego z dodatkiem spirytusu spozywczego. Alkohol, i caly czas alkohol, mocno wyczuwalny drazniaco denerwujacy, przykrywa wszystko. Slodko ciasta i torty wyrobione z Amaretto i migdalami, palaco rozgrzewajaco. Meczace i ciezkie.

This year's Hop Harvest by Cazeau - a concept undoubtedly inspired by De Ranke's yearly series - making use of Cascade. Inches thick, very foamy and rocky, 'flowery', hops-enhanced, snow white, towering head, very stable and leaving behind plaster-like lacing, but very difficult to pour without spilling; initially all but clear, very vividly sparkling straw blonde robe, misty and more ochre-tinged with sediment. Aroma of green bitter garden weeds, moist white pepper, minerals, baking soda, green apple, unripe banana, peach, dough, pineapple. Sweetish onset, notes of halfripe banana, pineapple and nectarine with a touch of green apple acetaldehyde, medium carbonation adding a sourish touch and minerally notes but turning out to be much softer than expected based on looks; slick, bit glueish and creamy mouthfeel, white bread pulp-like maltiness, bit soapy and a bit cereally as well, drenched in grassy, rooty hop bitterness, earthy with floral and weedy aspects, 'noble' and firm with a long drying effect, though powdery yeast, soap and green fruit aspects linger equally strong. For me, this could have been even hoppier seen the premise, this has been deliberately kept accessible it seems, but a pleasant enough quencher with a very Belgian saison-like profile. Too bad - as usual in this kind of beers - that the Cascade didn't get to show off its brightly citric nature, which would have been beautiful if applied properly...

28 April 2019. At Zythos Bierfestival. Cheers to Anke, 77ships & tderoeck! Clear yellow, lasting, thin, foamy, white head. Aroma of grass, flowers, pepper, breadcrust, yeast, green banana, yellow apple. Taste is light fruity sweet, apple, pear & some banana, quite bready & yeasty, spicy bitter tones of pepper, grass, early hops, sourish touch, ending dry, lingering fruit & bread with some grassy hops. Medium body, slick texture, fizzy carbonation. Straightforward hoppy blond, certainly correct.

Tap at Luppolo Station in Rome-Italy. Shy ancient golden semi clear color, frothy huge white foam. Nose: spicy, citric, grassy. Pepper forward. Mouth is incredibly peppery, bitter citric and spicy a bit. So refreshing.

Clear pale yellow beer, small creamy white head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: very malty, grains, hay, cow fodder, barn yard. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: metallic bitterness up front, alcohol, grains, hay. Aftertaste: more metallic notes, banana peel unpleasant bitterness. Didn't like this very much… Not getting much hops, let alone Cascade...
