Bottled bright from Kent BF 07. Gold, lasting bubbly off white head. Good strong golden beer. Slightly elderflower, good golden syrup. Actually a rather good golden strong beer in the Summer Lightning vein.

500 ml bottle, bought in Scarborough. Dent t’Owd Tup was voted Champion Winter Beer of Britain in 1999, a fact that is still proudly displayed on the label. Black colour, reddish brown in the highlights. Decent creamy tan head, does not last forever. Moderate but very nice roasty aroma, notes of coffee, hints of chocolate, leather and plums. Concerning the flavour, for once I find it appropriate to quote the commercial description / tasting notes: "The dominant roast character is balanced by a warming sweetness and a raisiny, fruit-cake taste which lingers on into the long aftertaste, making this a very satisfying drink." Pretty much spot on, if you ask me. A combination of maltiness and fruitiness carries the beer through, and Northdown hops are used for both aroma and flavour. Good stuff!

Bottled at Monk’s Café, Stockholm. Deep golden, clear, fairly rich head. Aroma of hay and orange. Rounded mouthfeel created by sweet malt. Fruity and medium bodied. Rather hoppy, yet lager-like with it’s pilsnerish malt character. Salty finish. Feels strong and potent, rather than drinkable.

Cask gravity at Planet Thanet BF 2007. Very dark ruby colour with disappearing beige head. Tarry blackcurrant is intense. Chewy in mouth, verges on tarry molasses, but the fruit keeps it in check. Great integrated alcohol, gives body without dominating. Fruit and dates and blackberry are very good. Oddly refreshing.

Cask, Banbury Beer Festival Fri 23rd March 2007. As it say’s chesnut in colour, standard fruity beer lacking in aroma, though to be fair the fact that it was very cold may not have helped much, little bit chewy ok beer.
