Slightly hazy deep amber/ruby/brown tinted body with a thin tan head. Aroma of and odd mix of malt, caramel, vinegar, cherries and a little strawberries - odd, for sure. Medium-bodied; Funky malty flavour at first with a little fruitiness but mostly a dry malty and caramel flavour. Aftertaste shows pretty much all malt notes, a touch of earth and pungent hay with a little vinegar and sweetness. Overall, not such a good beer in any respect, but especially to the style - not a good beer at all. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from BevMo in Walnut Creek, California on 19-March-2011 sampled at home on the Eastern Shore of Virginia on 02-April-2011.

Bottle from Bevmo in Greenbrae, CA. Pours black with a medium thin tan head that dissipates steadily. Partial rings of lacing. Aroma of roasted coffee and chocolate. Medium body that is sort of dry, sort of creamy. Flavors of mocha, grainy malt and a bit of hops. The finish is roasty with a moderately bitter coffee aftertaste. I was expecting something sweeter and more chocolatey but overall this is pretty good.

25 oz (?) bottle from the Natomas BevMo. Hazy peach color with a four finger frothy off-white head that rings randomly. A floral cat piss aroma. Whoo-hoo! Med + body. Lots of floral and citrus hop. Light caramel backbone. Enough hop to burn, but it’s more Angleterre floral than NW harsh. But it does burn. This is either a crude endeavor or a marvelously subtle use of a 10 lb. hammer to kill a mosquito, or one heck of a well planned and executed brew. And it finishes so hoppy that how it got here does not matter. Brilliant f---- ale.
