Description
Hangar 24 began its craft brewing exploration with a true passion for good beer, the absolute love of flying and the pure enjoyment of being around great friends. My buddies and I used to meet at hangar No. 24 at the Redlands Municipal Airport, after an afternoon of flying, to trade stories, talk aviation, play music and share a few cold ones that were recently home brewed. These days, the location of where the beers are brewed has changed, but the quality time spent enjoying a delicious, handcrafted beer and conversation with friends is the same as ever. I personally want to invite you to join the adventure. Cheers! Ben Cook.

Poured from 500mL bottle (Dec 2018; batch 6; bottle #1903/2112; bottle lists 15% abv). Black with very minimal light beige head, tiny bit of sediment. Some decent barrel notes - picking up more brandy than bourbon, woody, slightly aggressive boozy, dark chocolate, still quite decent.

500ml (thx Brian S for the bottle and Tom B. for picking up and keeping it for all that long time during the pandemic) @ SalesForce. Vintage 2018. ABV 15%. Appearance: almost black with a beige head. Aroma: chocolate, bourbon, dark fruits, some brandy and some fruity caramel. Taste: along the same lines, very barrel forward with a lot of brandy and bourbon barrels, moderately hot and boozy. Overall: a bit too boozy, but it's very good.

12oz (thx, Brian S. for the bottle and Tom B. for keeping it for all this time while the border has been shut down due to the f@cking COVID-19!) @ Matt's. Appearance: brown with a tan head. Aroma: oxidation, rum, some slight smoke and peat, dark fruits. Taste: along the same lines, quite a lot of raisins, moderately sweet. Overall: pretty good.

Bottled Nov. 2017. 12 oz. bottle, pours black with a tiny tan head. Nose has plenty of rum-like oxidation upfront, followed by raisins, booze, and a hint of vanilla. Flavour has a wonderful rum barrel quality, some sherry-like oxidation, raisins, and a touch of vanilla. The alcohol is worked in remarkably well, and the sweetness is kept in check by the base beer and the barrels. The oxidation -- I assume from the aging -- imparts a nice elegance to it. Excellent.

Bottle. Pours clear black, small brown head, decent lacing. Aroma is molasses, bourbon, cocoa, hints of smoke, vanilla. Flavor is medium sweet, light plus bitter, just a hint of smoke. Not really getting maple. Full body, creamy mouthfeel. Quite fine.

Bottle shared in London - cheers! Pours mostly clear gold-brown with a bubbly tan head. Punchy, mildly oxidised, with notes of well toasted malts, caramel, earthy hops. Full bodied, lightly chewy, with fine carbonation. Notable alcohol in the finish, some bitter pine, toasted malts, dried caramel. Not bad overall.
