16 oz. draft at the brewery. Mild aroma of caramel malt with light hops and traces of yeast. Has a fruity hint. Hits the mouth with a lighter side of medium body, malt bill has a firm presence. Everything about this brew is a traditional ESB. Not sure what the New England spin on the name is all about. No evolved hop profile at all. Uh?

Sampled in a 4 oz. glass at the brewery. Golden color with a hazy red tint with a light pink creamy head, aroma has raspberry and light lemon, mild Lactic acid. The flavor shows me raspberry yogurt, cream of wheat body with tart berries in the finish. Acid is very low.

Personal note: Beer rating number 1000 from the state of New Hampshire. New Hampshire is my 2nd state to 1000 reviews. I am glad it happens to be from one of my favorite breweries in this fine state.

Sampled in a 4 oz glass at the brewery. Hazy straw appearance with lasting bubbles. The aroma is citrus over run with pine needles. The spruce is strong. Very mild citrus hiding underneath the spruce tips.

Falls right in the middle of the road for me. You have to really want pine to properly enjoy this beer.

Bottle shared in MV with the family. Pours clear gold with a frothy, white head. The nose some peach, dried pale malts, lemon peel. Light sweet flavour with notes of biscuits, hay, more citrus peel, straw. Light bodied with average, lively carbonation. Finishes with mellow piney bitterness, crackers, lemon rind. Nice SIPA.

Pours blush pink into a shaker. Soapy head with medium retention recedes to hug rim. Raspberry and aspirin aromas. Soft with sweet raspberry upfront with a sharp, dry lactic finish.

Very similar to the Julio’s release though probably not quite as much pure whiskey/rye/spice character. More traditional char, vanilla and coconut with lots of milk chocolate and caramel lying behind it for balance. Pretty well-concealed alcohol (this is a pretty good level for an RIS; would never want more than 9.5%) and no flaw. No raw sugar or fudge, either.
Chocolaty and full of strong bourbon character with spicy spirit melding nicely with vanilla and coconut. Rum continues with the spice trend and dries things out significantly on the finish as alcohol warmth enters the mix, lightly. Chewy, malty body, yet proper attenuation to prevent and syrupy-sweet-fudgey character from forming. Quite nice and though I’m not a personal fan of big bourbon character in stouts, for what this is, it’s very well-brewed and aged.

Very interesting stuff going on in the nose, obviously heavily liquor-influenced. Nuts, light booze, even lightly sour (heavy rye spiciness). Typical vanilla-whiskey-oak notes somewhat dominate, but the malt adds a good caramel character with light toffee and dry chocolate, to attempt to balance, which it does, for the most part. Clean and not overdone in any aspect (though it’s obviously very dominant in barrel character) and not fudgey or overly boozy.
Whiskey is prominent in the mouth, as vanilla, wood tannin and toasted oak character sit on top of a strong caramel-chocolate malt base that is very dry, borderline too much so. Lots of whiskey; very boozy, though it’s not hot alcohol ester but rather a more spirit-like character from the barrel. Sourdough-like character emerges as the whiskey and oak combine with the malt, on the finish. Low but fairly engaging carbonation and no flaws. I love the dryness and the overall structure and execution of the beer. It’s obvious this is intended to showcase the spirit character of the barrels it was aged in, and does that very successfully. That being said, it’s way too much whiskey for me, personally, but I can respect that it’s clean, dry and fairly polished, overall.
