Description
Vleesmeester Brewery saw the light in 2010, when 3 friends –after years of frequenting beer festivals- decided to make their own beers. We bought ourselves a starter kit, and so it began.
Some people in our surroundings wondered what we were doing in the kitchen and wanted to come take a look. Whilst crushing the malt they thought we were grinding it in a meat mill. So they started calling us “Vleesmeester” which means meatmaster in Dutch. From then on we called ourselves “Vleesmeester Brewery”, a lay-outer and friend of ours made a logo, and “Vleesmeester Brewery” was born.
Fascinated by the less known beers out of the craft beer scene we started experimenting. Our preference went to hoppy beers and our firstborns were mostly IPA’s and Russian Imperial Stouts. One better than the other, by trial and error.
Along the way, the people, who weren’t into hoppy beers at first, started to find appreciation for what we were doing. In 2014 the guys from the Antwerp based band “Your Highness” asked us to make a beer to serve at the release of their album, this beer became “Hoogheid”.

Pours a bit viscous to a good, dense tan head over almost black brown beer. End of bottle bubbly UFO's. Black berries from afar upon opening, then roast. Sweet, ink, watercolour paint, burnt crust of meatroast. Dry at first, ink, roast bitterness, hints of bitter almond, and gradually sweetening. Faint stout acidity, bit woody, liquorice. Pappy MF, slight astringency, very well-carbonated, thick body, some alcoholwarming. Obviously I like the Reprise better than the original edition, but I won't become a huge fan for the longest time.

Draught Small but quite stable yellow-cream head and lots of lace over deep cola-coloured beer. Old winecasks and just more than a hint of the smokey Islay in the background. I Boerejongens /I (raisins on booze), cloved orangepeel. Leather/leathergrease, lactic acid, sour grapes and dried unsugared plums vying for attention. A jumble, yet balanced. Warming up, the phenols of the whisky strengthen. Feels not very heavy, but the alcohol & fusels are prominent. Lipsmacking acidity, well carbonated. Guys @ Vleesmeester... will you please keep focusing on Oud Bruin and their ilk? You're going from strength to strength there.

Bit fluffy, disparate head over hazy orange-yellow beer. Grapey, almost (sweet) vinous aroma. Some exotic fruitesters, vineyardleaves. Aromatic flavour with nectarine, lunaria, citrus/-peel. Preserved orange, kumquat. Maybe medium bodied, hopoilslick. Aftertaste still sports citruspeel. Quite good.

Draught Retreating cream head over opaque dark brown beer. Acetic (less) & lactic (more) acid, old wood, brown candi sugar, balsamico, raisins, vinous, sourish chocolate. Nice lactic/wood/fruity esters' combination - ideal Oud Bruin. Sweet-sour in absolutely perfect balance. Challenges the best Rodenbach products. Warming up, faint meaty esters. Acidburn and -thinning, good carbonation. Outstanding Oud Bruin. To me the best Vleesmeester has ever produced, I'm looking forward to more of this kind.

Zwart bier met weinig schuim. Smaak is bitter met overduidelijk koffie en wat zurig fruit zoals rode en zwarte bessen. Gewoon heel fijn bier met een lange krachtige nasmaak.

Clear red brown colour with thin head and ni carbonation. Lots of wood in the aroma, perhaps too much. It's got a base grainy sweetness and a boozy kick. There's a little vanilla bourbon sweetness but the overall woodiness dominates too much. Thinnish texture. Not bad, just far from optimal.
