Carry out from the brewery. A cola coloured pour with absolutely no head; drinking chocolate aroma; rather thin in the mouth with some purple fruit to start, then chocolate, followed by a gentle warmth that builds to a lingering spicy pepper finish. Well balanced with just the right amount of pepper.

Carry out from the brewery. A pale straw colour with a ring of translucent head; refreshing grassy lemony aroma; fruity biscuity body to start, but the hops develop quickly in the mouth, giving a dry resinous feeling in the mouth, and some unexpected warmth, then lingering grapefruit. Much more complex than expectred.

Cask-conditioned at the Gryphon, Bristol 27/2/2017. Near black in colour, with a moderately-sized, off-white, head. Pleasant porter, with some berry fruits and plain chocolate, toasty malts and a touch of black pepper spicing, before a warming finish. Enjoyable, with the pepper not being overdone.

(Cask at White Horse, Parson’s Green, London, 26 Nov 2016) Black colour with brief head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of coffee, vanilla and dark chocolate. Malty, roasted taste with coffee, vanilla, caramel, dark chocolate and a balanced coffee bitterness. Medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Tasty and very well balanced with a smooth mouthfeel. Very nice.

(Cask at White Horse, Parson’s Green, London, 26 Nov 2016) Dark brown colour with hints of ruby. Frothy beige head. Malty nose with notes of coffee, chocolate, dark fruit and caramel. Malty, roasted taste with caramel, coffee, chocolate, dried fruit, raisins, chewy malt and a gentle roasty bitterness. Medium body, with a slight sweetness. Tasty and well balanced. Nice one.

Cask-conditioned at the Sir Michael Balcon (JDW), Ealing 30/1/2017. Chestnut brown, with a frothy, off-white, head. Sweet, brown sugar and earthy malts, some berry fruits, leafy hops and a moderately bitter finish. Fine.
