Crosse Keys Spoons. Cask. Clear deep amber beer, small pale tan head. Palate is light and very smooth with nice superfine carbonation. Smooth malt, a little dry. Whisper of banana and bubblegum esters. Little unsweet caramel and malt cream. Mild dried fruits and subtle juicy red berries. Finishes with light noble hop bitterness. Mellow bitter linger. Not bad.

Cask at the Victory Inn, Brighton. It pours deep ruby-brown with a small white head. The nose is wood, dried berry, caramel, light jamminess and vinous notes. The taste is bitter-sweet, wood, berry, dark fruit, caramel, cherry cola, brown bread and varnish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Tasty and well-balance. Really, rather nice!

Cask at the Crosse Keys, JDW - London. Pours clear, ruby-gold with a creamy, off-white head. The aroma has a surprising amount of juicy citrus, pine and toasty bread. The flavor backs up the robustness of the snout with lots of well ripened and juicy citrus, orange, grapefruit, berries, plenty of sappy pine, sweet bread. Pretty tasty. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet finish, lightly resinous, more oine, ripe citrus fruits, some toffee, rich and lightly toasted bread. Not a bad beer.

Light to medium sweet flavor with decent beech wood smoked malts, touches of bread and semi-dry caramel, faint pine needle bitterness. Light bodied with soft to fine carbonation. Modest sweetness to finish, restrained smokey beech wood, soft caramel, hints of ripening citrus. Fair.

Cask-conditioned at the Willow Walk (JDW), Victoria Station, 28/5/2013. Medium brown with a slight, off-white head. Light, beech wood and cookie dough aroma. Flavour was sweet and slightly yeasty up front, with a touch of tart fruit, leading to a smoky finish with touch of streaky bacon thrown in. Good.

Has a heavy smoked character, most obvious in its aftertaste although it’s not shy in its aroma as well. There are some slight fruit notes evident though and it’s dark ruby in colour with a small head.
