Bottle thanks to allmyvinyl. Appearance - deep chestnut with red chinks. Slightly off white head. Nose - fudge and edge of molasses. Light smoke. Taste - creamy smoke and toffee. Lusciously rich. Palate - creamy and medium bodied despite 4.1%. Balanced sweet and dry on the finish. Overall - lovely beer where the malts do the talking! Great for the ABV.

Bottle from Taste of Northumbria, Alnwick. Pours clear mahogany red-brown with a thin beige head. Toffee and fudge on the nose, bonfire toffee. Taste is toffee, molasses, just enough bitterness to round things out. Really good example of a traditional British ale.

Moderate sweetness, medium roasted bitterness. Moderate body, slight oily texture, average to soft carbonation. At 4%, lacked a bit of body but was otherwise very nice.
