Description
In 1992, in deepest Hexhamshire, Northumberland’s oldest brewery was formed, with one clear mission: to create wonderful beers using traditional methods and simple, high quality and locally sourced ingredients.

A small range of beers are brewed at any one time; a core selection of firm favourites surrounded by several seasonal ales and specially commissioned and bespoke brews.

Bottle from Northumbrian Gifts. Clear amber with small white head. Aroma is sweet with biscuit, grains, straw, zest, light fustiness. Taste again is quite grain/straw noted, a sweet medicinal resin, light boiled fruit, dry and grassy bitterness in the finish. Chewy near medium body. OK.

Bottle from Northumbrian Gifts. Pours a clear chestnut with small off white head. Aroma of bread, caramel, dried fruit, citrus zest, some hop spice. Taste of light tart dried fruits, roast, caramel, molasses, nuts, bitter edgy finish. Near medium bodied, fine carbonation. Good ESB.

Bottle from Northumbrian Gifts. Clear amber-orange with moderate sized white head. Aroma of pear drops, zest, hay, brown bread. Taste of brown bread, hay, light spice, bitter finish. Average.

Bottle from Northumbrian Gifts. Black with thin tanned head. Aroma is roasty, slightly meaty, chocolate and sweetness. Its quite a light stout in body but still holds some good flavour with chocolate, coffee and roast. Sweet but has a dry roastiness in the finish. Quite good.

Can from Northumbrian Gifts. Pours clear golden with a thick white head. Light floral hop aromas, faint corn. Taste is crispbread, margarine, floral hops again. Fifthly flabby finish.

Can from Northumbrian Gifts. Pours clear golden with a thin white head. Aromas of light tropical fruit and bread. Taste is light bitter orange peel, sweet bread, cereal grains. Light bitter finish.

500ml bottle bought as part of a delivery from Northumbrian Gifts and drunk at home. Light brown, clear with a ring of beige head. Caramel aroma, light mineral spiciness, hints of date syrup. Sweet and slightly spicy with more date and some black grape to the fore, fading to a little bit of bitterness and a slightly dry finish. Light body, high carbonation. Masterful.
