Description
We are always busy creating taste sensations, always looking for improvements or new flavours and optimizing our beers. Our beer is pronounced, complex, balanced, often full and soft in texture. We don’t brew beer for everyone, we only brew beer for people who love pronounced flavours. We do this by constantly tinkering with our recipes in search of perfection, we want to brew beer that is considered legendary. One has to tell stories about how great the beer of the Moersleutel is. Anyone who drinks our beer must be spoiled for life and must want nothing more.

375ml bottle @ home. Pitch black color. Head is interestingly light beige on top, getting darker towards the beer. Aroma’s: caramel, roast, a bit fruit, alcohol. Retronasal there’s whisky, roast, sweetness, some fruit and wood. Flavor is above moderate sweet, chocolatey, roasty. Strong alcohol feel, somewhat sharp and burning. Full bodied. Finish is roasty, moderate bitter. Wow!

Bottle. Color: Almost black, nutbrown head. Taste: Dark roasted malt, notes of dark chocolate, more sweet than bitter, finish is tending more to the bitter side. Some hints of the Bowmore barrel aging.

At home shared from bottle sincere thanks to Maakun. Black with tan head. Dark roasted chocolate malts, massive coffee beans, balsamic, walnut, oak. Quite sweet, big bitter coffee roast and light rotten wood and balsamic sour. Over medium body, soft carbonation. Very dense, muddy, grainy texture. Soft carbonation.

Bottle shared. Black with fizzy dark brown head. Lots of licorice, drop, sherry, coffee, strong red wine, light marzipan, thick roasted malts. Quite some fruit, nice barrel and a deep roast and coffee underneath. There’s also a light sour berry touch which might be some wild yeasts. Over medium sweet, medium bitter and light sour. Full thick bodied with some very fine but fizzy carbonation. Lovely though it has a hint of infection, especially in the carbonation and taste.

37cl bottle. Pitch black, motoroil pour, with a dark espresso head. Notes of roasted malts, smoke, cold brewed coffee, vanilla, subtle pine resin, ash. Full body, thick and oily, with low carbonation and a roasty bitter-sweet finish.

Bottle from Drinks & Gifts, batch 6/7 BB 01-2022, 37.5 cl sample. Dark color, medium frothy brown head. Aroma of roast and dark bread, dark red fruit and salty licorice. Bit vanilla and caramel sweetness, salty licorice, roast. Not a lot of barrel, but carefully blended with a fairly thick base RIS, which is more towards licorice and roast than chocolate. Good job.

375 ml. bottle @ home. Ruby hue black with quite deep mocha head. BBF 05-2021. Nose is surprisingly soy sauce, umami, poorly mixed with umami, bitter roots, ugh,... Taste is overly big cinnamon with no balance at all, herbal roots, vague soy sauce, sweet mocha, some tonka bean in the back, not sure if I really get the mocha, umami dominates too heavily, tonka beans becomes clearer with time & temperature,... Base seems to be poor with plain umami notes, tonka bean & cinnamon seem to really clash,... Body is umami with tonka bean & cinnamon. Not really getting the cacao nibs, tonka bean & cinnamon really clash with the poor base, it is quite a mess even if manageable. Honnestly I keep trying this brewery but I really do not get why the Duchies really hype this one.

On tap at NHBF’17. Black colour, beige-brown head. Aroma of hard-roasted malts, hint of coffee, burnt caramel, brown sugar, light smoke, leather. Flavour is sweet and lots of roast, slight roast sourness, metallic sugariness, leather, toffee, bittersweet finish. Full bodied, thick. Good, but not world-class.
