Description
Artisanally brewed in Amsterdam since 2011.

Combining influences from the rich European beer culture with a non-conformist attitude.

From a family heritage of Swedish farm brewers and trained by the masters of ale and porter in England, we ended up in the Netherlands to create our own microcosm in the world of beer.

Inspired by the lesser known sides of European brewing culture and devoted to uncommon artisanal techniques, Butcher's Tears makes distinctive beers that progress beyond fashion and convention.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a near clear amber with tan head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of bread notes with underlying sweet dark grains and a hint of fruits. Flavor has notes of bread throughout with a bit of molasses and underlying fruits.

Tasty bock beer with a nice taste of dark fruits, raisin and some herbs I think.

Hoppy Blond beer, with tasty notes of fruit. Had a fresh mouthfeel as well. Nice.

Quite a disappointment. Flat beer with a watery body. There are some hints of hops and malt, but it’s all vey faint. Tasted like a misbrew.

Cask at In de Wildeman. Hazy deep golden colour, no head. Aroma of tart lemons, quite hoppy actually, not really sour or lambic-like, tiny hint of funk, pale malts, smells refreshing. Flavour is light-sweet, malty, dry, bitter citrus hoppy, lemon, tiny bit of tartness, light sourness with a hint of bleach in the short finish. Light-bodied. I liked it, except for the bleach/acetic stuff in the finish.

Cask @ In De Wildeman. Originally intended for the Brett Dagen 2013, but poured and Nederlandse Bierdagen. Pale golden color, cloudy. No head. Aroma’s from the glass: soft tart, light malty. Retronasal there’s brett, tartness and bitterness. Flavor is moderate bitter and moderate sour, but not really balanced, as if it doesn’t know which way to choose. Light bodied. Finishes tart and with a harsh, unpleasant earthy bitterness, quite dry. Interesting experiment, but not really succeeded.
