Cask at the New Leathern Bottle, Warfield. A straw coloured pour with a ring of white head; bitter herbal aroma; sharp tangy bitter herbal taste, with fresh green hops giving a resinous bitterness with a touch of nettle and elderflower. Assertively hopped and very good.

Cask at the Crosse Keys, JDW - London. Pours clear copper-brown with a foamy, tan head. The nose holds toasted grains, earthy hops, grass. Light sweet flavour with notes of old, leathery berries, earth, a little plastic, astringent grassy notes. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Finishes with strong grassy bitterness, some ash, more old leather, grains. Not the best.

Ordered two beers and the barmaid must have got them mixed up. I though this was the Whitsable mild.... but viewing my notes: Cask at PoW, Farnborough. Cola brown. A thin beige head. A really sweet impact but there is a bitter edge to it. Cheap chocolate. Medium bodied, with soft carbonation. Pleasant and drinkable. But not overly chocolaty.

Bottle at home from indepdent shop in Brighton. Aroma of smelly feet was unpleasant. Didn’t find its target, too sour for a Christmas ale and not flavourful enough for an interesting stout. Quite unpleasant.
