Description
Whiplash began as a side project for Alan & Alex back in 2016. Both working in brewing already, they rented tanks at the weekend and released single batch small releases for fun from their own place of work and other friend’s breweries around Ireland. Professional beer dudes who were gypsying for fun. Things escalated and by the end of 2017 Whiplash was its very own pain in the neck with the guys going full time, brewing Whiplash beer all over Ireland and Europe. 2019 saw the two complete their microbrewery build and establish Ballyfermot, Dublin as Whiplash headquarters complete with their own custom designed brewhouse delivering small batches of big beers. Now with a home, a kit and a small crew: Whiplash are very much the Dublin brewery at the forefront of all that’s modern in Irish beer.

Can at Mum and Dads, from Craft Central.ie, 16/11/2025.
Murky orange topped with a lasting just off white head.
Nose is pineapple, grass, papaya, soft malts, light breads,
Taste comprises papaya, mandarin, ripe melon, pine resin, soft malts, light breads.
Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close spliced with juicy come lightly dankened hop bitterness.
Tidy enough DIPA but 3 Whiplash on the spin that haven't been up to their usual standards. To be fair this one is on par.

Can at Mum and Dads, from Craft Central.ie, 16/11/2025.
Hazed orange topped with an off white cap that dissipates to a swirl.
Nose is orange peel, hint of apple, grass, citric tinged straw.
Taste comprises orange peel, light candied fruits, grass, melon, mandarin.
Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close splashed with mellow light juicy hop bitterness.
Okay IPA but 2nd Whiplash on the bounce that has been a bit of a let down for me based on their usual standards.

Can at Mum and Dads, from craft beer central.ie online, 15/11/2025.
Hazed yellow golden topped with a big old white head ... a rather over lively pour.
Nose is grass, melon, tangerine, lychee, lemon nip, perfume.
Taste comprises tangerine, grass, pineapple, melon, soft malts.
Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close splashed with mellow light juicy hop bitterness.
Not the greatest offering from Whiplash ... a little flabby and lacking any direction in respect to bitterness.

very hazy pale yellow colour, huge, dense and quite long lasting ecru-ish white head; aroma of grapefruity, tropical fruity, some tangerine, biscuity and minimal vegetables notes; hoppy taste with syrupy sweetness, the same notes as can be felt in the aroma and spicy-horseradish-like aftertaste; good one

440 ml can, as Whiplash Into the Abyss Decoction Festbier, from Vinmonopolet Sandnes Kvadrat. ABV is 5.8%. Brewed with Vienna malt and Munich malt, hops are Perle, Saaz and WLP833. Slightly hazy golden colour, moderate white head. Distinct aroma of malts and caramel, hints of herbal hops and honey. The flavour has the same elements, but is not too sweet. Medium bitter finish.

On tap at Chester Station Tap. Pours a very dark reddish-brown with a medium sized foamy cream head and good lacing. The aroma is subdued – just hints of malts and caramel. In the mouth it is sweet and creamy but also slightly watery. Flavour is basically roasted malts, but with hints of ginger and (later) liquorice and vanilla. A little bitterness in the dry finish. This is decent.
