Deep cherry red with an intense rosée head. Lighter cherry aroma with good horseblanket quality in nose, with lactic notes. Intense sour beer with fresh sour cherries, lots of carbonation, rich and intense! Bought at brewery in Beersel.

Bottle: Poured a clear orangey color lambic with a huge slightly off-white head with excellent retention. Aroma of barnyard and sourness is quite evident. Taste is so well balance between sourness, tart, little bit of acidity, green apple with some nice funky yeast also thrown in. Probably one of the finest Lambic that I had the chance to try and the fact that the acidity is lower then Cantillon makes it easier to drink larger quantity. Re-rate 2006 (bottle date 1999): Complexity in this beer is just incredible (farmhouse, horseblanket, oak, tart) and appearance is just perfect (huge foamy head with perfect retention) Can really ask more from a gueuze. 2008 re-rate: 2007 dated bottle. Not as complex as earlier vintage and definitely not as funky. I wonder if it need to age or Fonteinen own lambic is less funky their the Girardin or Lindemans they were using previously to mix?

Reddish-purple colour with a light purple head. Big aroma of brett, leather and cherries. Complex, fruity, leathery, dusty. Vast tartness and complexity. A classic kriek.

(Bottle 75 cl) This version simply called "3 Fonteinen Geuze" at 5% ABV - bottled 011297. Hazy, dark golden/amber with a fine, white head. Very classical, traditional gueuze - dry and very vinegary nose. Earthy, notes of over-ripe apples. Sour indeed, but far from the most extreme example. 140499

Enormous pink to yellow head, dense and leaving lace over orange to copper beer, end of bottle fully hazy. Woody and vinous lactic acid nose, "mals", sherry aroma with nearly Manzanilla character, faint horseblanket, some citrus zeste. Very dry taste, again some sherry and lots of wood, fruity (dried apricots on sherry? and lemon), some restrained lactic acid and some fresh bread. Little nutty finish. Dry MF but with restrained dry-out effect. Bitterish-leathery aftertaste. A truly superb gueuze, with, as proven on a recent tasting, indeed ideal for food-pairing. This is a top-blend, big hooray for J&J and for Armand, of course.

Bottled (brewed 15/12/03)
Honey golden, small off-white creamy head. Spicey and sweetish (honey, syrup) yeasty nose. Odd metallic flavor of steel dominates, honey sweet . Medium-bodied - alcohol is hided. Quite carbonated.

Bottled (BB 07/2006)
Hazy pale yellow with small white head. Aroma has sweet yeasty banana (De Dolle like) and spices (maybe coriander). Light to medium-bodied. Palate is also quite light, otherwise this would be a tasty beer: banana sweetness, some spices, mild alcoholic kick. Quite carbonated.

Bottle: Poured a red color beer with a huge pink foamy head with excellent retention. Aroma of sour cherries is dominant as well as oak. Taste is sour as hell with very little sweetness and great tartness. Very refreshing on a hot day and appreciate the fact that the acidic level is well balance which is not always the case with those Lambic producers. 2008 re-rate: a lot sweeter then I actually recalled. Less acidity and maybe a bit less funk overall. Easily drinkable. I wonder if bottle brought directly from Belgium fare the travel better then the imported bottles?

Bottle. Sour cherry and musty yeast aroma. Brownish red color with small head. Moderately sour and tart cherry, musty/earthy flavor. A dry/sour kriek - not sweet at all. A good choice if you like gueuezes but not sweetness.

Bottle - This was my 600th rating and at the same time a bottle in honour of my Master of Science thesis, that I just finished the day I drunk this one.
It has a clear, red body, with a pink, rocky/frothy head that diminishes mostly. It has a good lace. Nose of sour cherries and a quite dry white wine. Medium acidic, lightly sweet initial flavour. Moderately sour finish. A lovely flavour, fine well-balanced. But maybe needs some more ageing, because it tasted quite fresh.
