Description
Yvan DE BAETS and Bernard LEBOUCQ meet each other in 2002, during the second edition of the Zinnekparade. Bernard had created the now famous ZINNEBIR for this unique Brussels event. However, it took another five years for BRASSERIE DE LA SENNE to settle effectively in the capital. In the meantime, the brewing activities were continued at friendly breweries. This bohemian existence came to an end on December 22, 2010, the date of the very first 100% Brussels brew!

From tap, Kerstbierfestival 2007 in Essen/Belgium. Pours hazy brown with a lacing off-white head. Caramel malt aroma, heavy roasted and somewhat toffee like. Bitter herbal flavour with some sweetness lurking through. Ends with a lingering spice note into the burned malt flavours.

Pours deep amber into a snifter. Tan head with good retention slowly recedes to skim surface leaving no lacing. Clean malt and pit fruit aromas. Bittersweet caramel upfront with a lasting, puckering grapefruit pit finish. Made my lips tingle.

Bottle (forgot where I got this from) Poured a very hazy yellow with large white frothy head that took an age to subside. Spices and yeast on the nose. Tasted fresh and hoppy reminded me a little bit of Hommelbier for the strident hoppiness, it was nice drinking a Belgian beer that was so refreshing and of such a low abv just for a change. A6 A2 T7 P3 Ov16 3.4 just checked my rating for this and it is seriously out of date Bottle by the case 3-4 times a year from Dranken Geers, Oostakker, Nr Gent, Belgie This is one of our most regularly consumed beers, I love the crispness, sessionability and drinkability of this beer it has become along with Zinnebir one of my favourite Belgian beers and the brewery is also a favourite, A7 A4 T9 P4 Ov17 4.1

Rich, dark malty aroma with some earth, coffee, and dark fruit. Near opaque brown color with a substantial tan head. Full bodied with fizzy/creamy carbonation. Not as expected from the aroma. Toasted malt, dark chocolate, dark fruit, but it’s really dry. A little sweetness slips through from time to time, but it is really tending toward a stout, if the malt is as toasted as it seems. Or maybe towards a porter. Or a bitter shwarzbier. The finish is dry, lightly toasted, decently bittered, and a bit spiced. Really good drink.

Bottle 6% version: Poured a rusty copper color with white lacy head. The aroma is hoppy with floral and spice/herbs. Taste is metallic with hops, very plesant and carbonated. Finish is dry and continues to react to the taste buds.

Bottle: Poures a light brown yellow with a lacy white head. The aroma is spicy and very hoppy. Taste is fruit with loads of hops, probably one of the best hop style Belgiums I have had. Finish is dry and tingly.

Labeled as 8% abv, Equinox dark belgian winter - fizzy, dark ruby beer, with a well-sustained, foamy off-white head - aroma of dark fruits, strong belgian fruity esters, cocoa, light cookie dough, some subtle earthy, leathery components, and a mild, stale hoppy character - very slight sweetness, much drier than expected - moderate cocoa presence, and a very strong mix of wintery spices, along with a nearly intense peppery flavor - the fruity esters try to assert dominance after this, but the spices remain strong, and a nearly tannic, woody character helps to maintain the beer’s balance - a bit yeasty in the finish, but a mild tartness and dry red wine tannins keep things interesting, as the peppery quality slowly fades, leaving behind a hint of warming alcohol - between this and the taras boulba, I’m very impressed with this brewer.

This bottle was very damp around the cork, and the cork fell apart when I drove the corkscrew into it, so it was a bit of a struggle to keep cork particles out of my beer - hazy golden beer, with a frothy head that leaves a sheet of lace on the sides of the glass - nice earthy aroma, with bright floral notes, mild yeasty aromas, subtle citrus sweetness, orange peels, apricots, and light tangy quality - high carbonation in the mouth, but it is rather soft - nice dry bitterness, with some mineral flavors - very strong herbs and wildflowers - a pale malt and light honey sweetness develops to balance the bitterness - the floral aspect of the beer is phenomenal, reminding me of some of the best saisons and biere de gardes I’ve had - a gentle apricot and peach flavor combines with the honey flavor, and then the hops linger into the finish, ending dry and herbal, getting the salivary glands working - insanely drinkable - I could drink this beer all day long - great stuff.
