Description
Firestone Walker Brewing Company began innocently enough: two brothers-in-law—Adam Firestone and David Walker—debating the subject of good and bad beer. Their search for a decent local ale finally led them to brew their own starting in 1996. The original Firestone Walker brewery was located in a converted shed on the family vineyard, where they experienced no shortage of trials and tribulations. From these humble beginnings was born one of the world’s most decorated breweries.

At Firestone Walker, Beer Before Glory is our mantra for reminding ourselves we do what we do because of the beer. Period. It’s our battle cry to never accept well enough. It’s the high aim for a perfect beer we will never make. Beer Before Glory is our craft, ever honed on the stone of humility.

12 oz bottle. Aroma is oxidized, stale hops, wood, coconut, toffee, grapefruit, pine. Pours hazy orange-amber with a quickly collapsing beige head. Taste is highly bitter, a bit savory, and fairly sweet with flavors of toffee and citrusy hops.

The last of my inventory of Stickee Monkee, put away almost seven years ago and I have seen none at any store since. SM is one of my favorite quadrupels, my hope is the condition of the bottle has not declined. The opening goes well, I hear some carbonation being released and now I pour into a Trappistes Rochefort glass. I view a dark caramel body completed by a small skim of silver-tan, very fine fine bubbles. The nose is good, I get yeast, baked grain, dark fruit and malt. The taste is also still good, I feel fortunate. Dates, raisins, whole grain bread, some oakiness, chocolate, leather and a touch of toffee. This remains a fine drink, the years have diminished it only slightly.

Mild malty aroma, Taste is full, quite bitter, malty, fairly fresh tasting. Mild fruityness (fromt he yeast, more than the hops). Very easy drinkability with a med body and carbo. pretty generic, perhaps, but nothing bad.

2025 into a wineglass showing amber brown with sparse white foam.

The nose shows intense notes of sweet caramel.

The palate is light bodied and lightly carbonated. Dry with a bourbon forward vanilla smokiness throughout and a moderate hoppy bitterness on the finish.

12 oz bottle, thank you tfontana for the share!! Aroma is raisins, prunes, mild barrel. Flavor fallows with the addition of chocolate and vanilla. A lot of earthy malt. Medium and body with a restrained alcohol character. Pretty good amount of layers in the flavor.

Bottle from Total Wine & More, Brentwood. Opaque, cola brown with thin ring of head, no lacing. Aroma is strong, balanced, bourbon, brown sugar, caramel, dark fruit, spice. Taste is strong bourbon, dark fruit, caramel, brown sugar, spice, toffee. Smooth texture, soft carbonation, finish as taste. As expected, excellently curated, well balanced and delicious. And this is 6, almost 7, years later. What a great series and selection process.

12oz bottle from Tavour, cellared for a few years. Inky black pour with thin beige head. Aroma introduces subtle orange peel notes before the big boozy blast. Taste is roasty, fruity, oranges and lemons and lots of sweet caramelly flavor. The cognac barrel influence is there and it blends nicely.
