Description
Firestone Walker Brewing Company began innocently enough: two brothers-in-law—Adam Firestone and David Walker—debating the subject of good and bad beer. Their search for a decent local ale finally led them to brew their own starting in 1996. The original Firestone Walker brewery was located in a converted shed on the family vineyard, where they experienced no shortage of trials and tribulations. From these humble beginnings was born one of the world’s most decorated breweries.

At Firestone Walker, Beer Before Glory is our mantra for reminding ourselves we do what we do because of the beer. Period. It’s our battle cry to never accept well enough. It’s the high aim for a perfect beer we will never make. Beer Before Glory is our craft, ever honed on the stone of humility.

Bottle.

A- Dark brown color, dark liquid, tan head.

A- Coconut, vanilla, chocolate, mild coffee, nutty, sweet.

F- Coconut, fudge, vanilla, subtle hazelnut, mild barrel, sweet.

T- Full body, thick texture, average carbonation, sweet finish.

O- Sweet as expected. Loads of coconut, probably more than all the other adjuncts combined. Vanilla came through, hazlenut added a pleasant roasted nut flavor and coffee was actually a bit weak overall. Definitely a sweet fudge candy bar aspect. Good stuff. Honestly, wouldn't know it was barrel aged if it wasn't on the label.

Can from The Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours brassy gold with a moderate foamy white head that kind of laced. Aroma of weed and melon. Green melon. Maybe Persian. Def not cantaloupe. Approaching full body. There's some fruit, but weed, green melon and some resin make the flavor. It has an interesting sensation in the mouth. Forgot to mention bitter - it is but that weed thing took my mind off it. I should have just said it's flavorful, complex and let it go at that.

I didn’t have a chance to get to this yesterday…

Firestone Walker Bretta Tangerine 6.2%

Considering it’s got Bretta in the name I was expecting something super carbed and eager to gush but it turned out to be a pain to open. It finally popped open and splashed everywhere then slowly gushed out.

In the glass, the beer was a lovely orange gold with a brief flash of fizzy foam. The aroma was Brett and citrus with a rich funk. Medium bodied and semi-dry with a delicious tartness.

The start is tart, then a good depth of earthy tangerine after which you get a nice acidic finish.

Tasty stuff.

Bottle from Tavour, cellared (2022). Dark brown pour, small beige head and ring. Aroma hits like a brownie, all chocolate and a little bit nutty. Taste teases out additional flavors, bourbon, chocolate, mild roast and a little bit sweetness. Deceptively smooth.

12 oz can. Aroma is pineapple, guava, dank, crackery. Pours clear golden with a one finger bone-white head with great retention. Taste has a moderate pithy bitterness with tons of juicy hop flavors and a suggestion of dankness. Very nice hop profile.
