Description
Firestone Walker Brewing Company began innocently enough: two brothers-in-law—Adam Firestone and David Walker—debating the subject of good and bad beer. Their search for a decent local ale finally led them to brew their own starting in 1996. The original Firestone Walker brewery was located in a converted shed on the family vineyard, where they experienced no shortage of trials and tribulations. From these humble beginnings was born one of the world’s most decorated breweries.

At Firestone Walker, Beer Before Glory is our mantra for reminding ourselves we do what we do because of the beer. Period. It’s our battle cry to never accept well enough. It’s the high aim for a perfect beer we will never make. Beer Before Glory is our craft, ever honed on the stone of humility.

2017 vintage, opened late 2025. Pours clear dark copperbrown. Small white head. Toffee, mild earthyness. Caramelly taste is very nice, fall-leaves, caramelly, dark fruits, some raisin like features. Barrel is very smooth and mellow, obviously since it has a few years on it as well. More than decent, showing no real age downfall ! Medium boozy finish.

2023 bottle drunk 10/13/25.
Clear, dark. Small, tan head. Moderate retention.
Rich nose with good homogenization of adjuncts and malt. You get the cinnamon, but it's not dominant or aggressive. Lots of rich malt with light fudge and plentiful, mildly spicy bourbon. Doesn't seem too sweet and it isn't boozey.
Lightly-to-moderately sweet, probably a bit more perceived sweetness than actual sugar here, on account of the soft, round adjuncts. Cacao is rich and wonderfully-done, while the cinnamon, just like in the nose, is tasteful and doesn't dominate or overdry the palate. Barrel is certainly there, with light lead and spice and a lingering warmth. But the beer seems to be more about the malt and adjunct interplay. Tasteful all-around and good attenuation with no booze noted. Not a syrupy, alcoholic monster, yet still intensely-flavored with excellent barrel character. Looks like the additional age has helped this one.

On tap at Kaffee Bazaar, Markt Sq, Ypres, Thursday 9th October 2025 after a 917km drive from nr München yesterday and finished today. We walked the short walk from Urban Gardens Campsite. Pours pitch black with a light beige head, thick in the mouth, boozy and woah...this is fucking amazing, I believe it's a bonkers blend and it really is. I cannot be arsed to continue rating this, take it from me it's marvellous.

Bottle from a friend's cellar. Black pour with a brown, foamy head, surprisingly stiff for an older strong beer. Smell has slight bourbon at first sniff, some fruit leather, and a bit of semi-sweet chocolate. Taste is kind of a cola thingie, since it's still very fizzy. Slight lactic curl on my tongue, then more light chocolate.
