Description
Firestone Walker Brewing Company began innocently enough: two brothers-in-law—Adam Firestone and David Walker—debating the subject of good and bad beer. Their search for a decent local ale finally led them to brew their own starting in 1996. The original Firestone Walker brewery was located in a converted shed on the family vineyard, where they experienced no shortage of trials and tribulations. From these humble beginnings was born one of the world’s most decorated breweries.

At Firestone Walker, Beer Before Glory is our mantra for reminding ourselves we do what we do because of the beer. Period. It’s our battle cry to never accept well enough. It’s the high aim for a perfect beer we will never make. Beer Before Glory is our craft, ever honed on the stone of humility.

12 ounce bottle from Tavour. Jet black pour is topped by a creamy tan cap. Aroma of sweet roasted malt, vanilla, toffee, cocoa and oak. First sip is sweet and tangy. Quickly followed by tasty notes of candied pecans, milk chocolate, caramel, oak, bourbon, chocolate fudge. Thick and viscous mouthfeel. Rich and decadent. Try it! Meanwhile, I’ll have another sip…

One out of a series of three 12 oz bottles acquired together. Cooled off considerably, I will let the pour heat up to a proper temperature. Inside the globe glass I see a seriously dark brown body completed by a settled skim of sandy tan foam. A fine scent, I determine cane syrup, chocolate, toast and dark fruit. The taste is also good but not to the level of other Anniversary Ales I've had. Black plums, cherries, wood, grain, chocolate, a bit of leather and some booziness. The brewery produces some really decent beers in this style.

Rating Number 8,900. 500 ml bottle from Tavour. Opaque dark brown pour. Finger-high creamy tan head. Splendid roasted malt aroma has a delicate hint of smoke. First sip is bittersweet and roasty. Notes of dark chocolate, coffee and oak. As the brew warms, notes of whiskey and caramel emerge. More smokiness and dark dried fruits on backend. This is a luxurious, smooth sip. Well crafted and delicious.
