Draught Hazy chestnut brown; very dense, reasonably stable cream-coloured beer. Very spiced nose, like cumin, celeri salt & nutmeg, maybe really thyme. Not bad at all. Dry spiced taste, but not at all like the nose: more piney, root-spice like. Very obvious dark malts. Actually it’s better than the bottled version I tasted earlier. This has a balance, lacking in the earlier version. Well bodied, nearly chewy. I like to think the brewery is trying to ameliorate. That’s the best anyone could say on any brewery.

Bottled (BB MA/2005)
Hazy yellow with a good foamy white head, lace. Aroma is a bit Orval-like: malts, lemon and horseblanket. Grapefruit dominates flavor, tasty. Not very strong body, alcohol is also hidden quite well. Citrusy, refreshing, propably a nice summer beer.

Dark brown, specks; quite white head, smallish. Very restrained nose, some chocolate, dark malt, bit of alcohol, leafy. Sweet, bit of liquorice and caramel malts, precious little else. Thin watery, beer. All body seems to come from the sugar. This is a disgrace, especially at 5.9 Euro’s for 33cl!

Chestnut brown, red shine; off-white, small head. Quite oppressive, "double" nose; bread, nutty, alcohol and sweet. Sweet taste, bread again, a bit of banana and maybe some liquorice. Like a lesser, sweeter version of Westmalle dubbel, to even worse, Leffe-like. Well bodied, but much less attenuated than the Brice; slick MF. I felt exhilarated by the Brice. This Joup, however, is nowhere in the league - rather like the big commercial brunes.

Very pale gold, clear; little white rim. Nice nose, bit lemon, citrus and fresh, unadulterated (green) tea (regular, not Gun Powder or something similar). Bit of mint as well. Again spicey taste, sage I’d say. Dry, and (pale) malt in abundance. Quite tripel-like, but little or no alcohol trace. Medium bodied, obviously well-attenuated. Dry, but some sweetness in the palate. That’s a nice one. On the verge of tripel and Belgian style blond ale.

Very cloudy brown color, thick off-white creamy head. Bit sour spicy or yeasty aroma, but also very fruity and malty alltogether. It's quite specific, i smelled this before, but i cannot find the right description. Taste is quite sweet and spicy. Sticky palate.

Dark brown colour, brownish head. Spicy aroma, slightly caramel. Quite flat aroma, little bit spicy but not very pronounced.

Vervifontaine version Dark brown, purplish even; thick, brown, uneven head. Very nice winey-lactic acid (Brett?)- blackcurrant smell. Tart, fruity (fruit-drops retronasal) and roasted malt taste. Some toffee-flavour, but not sweet. Sourish tinge from C02. Fruit is black grape, blackcurrant, plum. Refreshing mouthfeel, quite well-bodied. Good carbonation, clear palate. Alcohol remains hidden. Roast malt stays for a while, even a bit too. Then general fruitaroma. Very nice beer, IMO. Grain d’Orge version, draught Dark-amber, with olive shine, very hazy; slim, off-white head. (4/5) Perfumed dark malts nose. (7/10) Sweet dark malts taste, chervil or broad-leaved parsley. Nutty notes. (7/10) Suggested mouthfeel lighter than it really is. It’s quite attenuated, no more syrup notes from the pearsyrup addition. (3/5) It’s a long way from the original by Vervifontaine. Seem to have liked that one better, but this certainly is OK (14/20 Overall)

Dark amber colour, generous head.
Nice malt aroma, some roasted malt.
Good body stucture, smooth; pleasant malt and sweetness, then it turns a bit dryer, but like the Aubel Blonde the hop is not enough strong nor aromatic, and the palate is too poor compared to other similar beers.
