Bottle at craig’s. Pours deep amber, nose is malty, cake, toffee, taste is sweet, fruitcake, apple, rich.

750 ml bottle. Pours a clear yellow color with a small white head. A big sweet fruity apple nose. The flavor is unique: dusty, funky, ginger, sweet apple. Insanely dry finish. Awesome.

Deep golden liquid looks somewhat viscous, but is otherwise clear with no head and a very small amount of bubbles visible.
The nose dosent smell terribly different than most Dupont ciders. Lots of pepper, dry appleskin and various other phenols, but with significantly less lactic character and a bit more rich honey and light alcohol warmth.
The flavor is certainly an odd one. Sweet, somewhat, up front, but immediately transitioning to an almost grainy, alcohol-heavy dryness featuring vanilla, light applesauce and moderate to moderately light tartness. There’s somewhat more richness/concentration of flavor than in the Bouche, but nowhere near what I’d expect/desire for this abv. It’s pretty much like the Bouche Brut but with a lot more gratuitous alcohol. I don’t get it.

Purchased this about a year ago and just seem to never get to drinking it. Well finally pooped it open, or Pruf did anyway. Apparently 2012 bottle. The cider is missing all that funk and tartness I expect from Dupont. Slightly dry and brown green apple skins. A little fecal. Surprisingly dull and not what I wanted or expected from this cidery.

Nice slightly fizzy shortlasting head. Aroma is dry funky, overripe (almost rotten) crowberries, oak, brett, apple skin, yellow apples, moss. Taste is sweet grassy, apple skin, oak, yellow apples, sugar, overripe crowberries, hay, grass, weeds, cheese. Slightly dry funky mouthfeel. Fair enough, kind of interesting.

750ml bottle, 2009. Yellow golden colour, short-lived white bubbly head and aroma of juicy apple with light oak & funk. Taste is sweetish, fruity apple, green apple, grapes, tart & dry, with notes of wood, oak, barnyard and light tannins. Crisp mouthfeel, light to medium bodied, spritzy carbonation, drying tangy lightly tannic finish. Very drinkable.

I tried this probably at my first ratebeer tasting, which was hosted by Paul. Drove from Staten Island to Jersey before Paul got upscale and moved on up to the Hoboken side. Or maybe it was a different Paul tasting. A Jersey RBian, who did not stay active long, shared this cider. At that time, it was pretty damn cool. Back then an upper teens cost of something was big money. I think we all appreciated the expenditure. Nowadays, its almost commonplace. I feel like this cider was much less available, definitely around but not overly common. I remember constantly seeing it at New Beer but never wanting to spend "that much" on a cider, even if it is barrel aged.

Recently, I moved to Seattle and cider is big there, way bigger than anywhere else in the states. Maybe that is why I kept seeing this bottle for sale; much stronger visibility than I had been used to. I have been tempted to pick up a bottle especially given that the $20 price tag isn’t really that large by contemporary standards. Fortunately, my uncle just brought this to a family gathering just for me. Hooray!.

I like Dupont cider, its the way I imagine cider should be done, effervescent, wild, not too apply, and not too sweet. However. these rules do not stand for ice ciders. This cider seems to be not wild, not effervescent but good, Why? because they make it a bit ice cider like with the calvados barrel. A bit of that heft from alcohol, sweet but worth sipping. Fun stuff but as an ice cider substitute as opposed to the regular Dupont lineup. See you again in 10 years cider.
