Fruit-infused beer can usuall go wrong in so many ways, and it usually does. Yet I’m attracted to them in the hopes that I might uncover something kriek-like, exciting, yet fruity, yet balanced; so I’ll always give ’em a try give ’n the chance. This pours with a tiny head but still present, and a big medium-yellow body with plenty of carbonation. It’s sampled at 8.4 celcius - plenty of sugary fake apple on the nose (yes, I can tell - I’d expect a true "apple pilsner" to have a good balance between a woody cider and a malty lager; not present here). The flavour is sweet and fake apple with a slightly malty and woody dry taste; still all rather unnatural. Drinkable nonetheless, but I could see where this style could go - and it’s a long way from there.

Sampled at 14.9 celcius. Nice look to it with a decent antique-white head and copper-brown body with plenty of carbonation. The aroma is sweet hops, lots of sugary hoppy goodness there but little else. Flavour is a lot of hops but it has little complexity; nonetheless it’s got an okay dry finish and the high alcohol level is completely hidden. It’s a great session beer, but of course it’ll be a short session with such high alcohol!

Award winning USDA Organic, it says on the can.... well what do I care? I’m in Canada, where’s the Canadian certified organic jibberjab on the can!? Yet the body is a decent gold colour with a stormy presence of carbonation and a significantly large off-white head. The aroma is malt and yeast with just a faint hint of grass. The flavour is a lot of grassiness with a dry malt finish. Very watery mouthfeel. As far as I’ve discerned so far, the Euros do this organic stuff waaay better.

Beautiful hippie can that fits the Woodstock theme. Pours a hazy dark amber colour with a big foamy beige head that lasts a while and leaves wavy lacing. Fresh scent of hop with pine needles notes, grapefruit and mild caramel. Smooth mouthfeel and medium-bodied. Not as bitter as the aromas lead to believe. Still, super easy to drink with the grapefruit dryness in the finish and a nice light lingering. Very well-balanced for summer and most Canadians not used to killer IBU from the States (IBU is 80 for this one).

A golden ale with a thick lacing white head. In aroma, a sweet caramel malt with nice piney hops, musky and funky. In aroma, a nice smooth sweet malt with nice bitter hops, lingering and piney, well done. Cask at Arrow and Loon, May 2 2012.

(473mL can from the LCBO) Poured cool, a hazy reddish-brown with an inch of foamy tan head. Aroma moderately strong citrus hops, bit of mango and pine, moderate caramel malt. Flavour is fairly malty but not grainy, bit of toffee. Some pine resin from the hops, a bit of citrus, moderate bitterness and mild alcohol heat. Finishes fairly dry for its malt body. Average mouthfeel, smooth, moderate carbonation. Not as quenching or fruity as many IPAs, pretty good nonetheless.

Pours a big foamy head that disappears right away. Looks a good murky reddish colour. Good carbonation, not too fizzy. Smells hoppy. Taste doesn’t have the highest hoppy bitterness I’ve had in an IPA but it has a body that fills out really well with thick fruitiness, citrus and even some alcohol. It’s pretty interesting for an IPA, more character than your average. Tall can.

Alright. Label is greatly misguided and beer perhaps is too. A dose of coffee-cacao and some alcohol in the body. Thick pour, good carbonation. A little sweet for me. Bottle at Stout Irish Pub

Smells a little malty but not too potent. Some caramel, sweetness. Has a big oaky bitterness at the end with some decent staying power. A good ten seconds of aftertaste here. On tap at volos.

BarVolo, Toronto tap ($7ish): Pours an amberish color with a small head. Aroma is sour mash, a bit of vinegar, and some vinous notes. Taste is pretty sour, though not overwhelming. It is refreshing without being boring. The finsih could have some theoretical improvements. Other than that, it is a good sour.
