Description
Since 1975, Boon Brewery has been owned and run by Frank Boon, one of the pioneers of the authentic lambic and gueuze revival. But the first signs of the brewery date back to 1680, as a farm-brewery and distillery in the village of Lembeek. In 1860 Louis Paul bought the brewery to brew only lambic and faro. From 1875, he began bottling gueuze lambic. In 1898, Pierre Troch bought the brewery. But after the economic crisis of 1927, it came into the hands of Joseph De Vits. His son, Rene is renowned for the production of soft and fine gueuze lambic. As Rene De Vits had no children, he sold the brewery to Frank Boon.

An old bottle obtained by a generous Belgian RB-er. A dark reddish amber ale with a thin off white head. A nice rosewater malt aroma, swet, classy and restrained. In mouth, like a good dunkel, sweet rosewater, light metallic notes, medium bodied. Overall, quite enjoyed. Shared with the Outaouais Crew, at Old Stock Tasting No. IV, Nov.11 2006.

1995-96. Darker gold than01-02, no head. A light acidic woody aroma, with horseblanket, light cherries, a bit astringent. In mouth, a harsh oxidized gueuze, with still a nice acifdity but deteriorated by time. The cork was shurnken, we note. 7-3-7-3-13
>
2001-2002. A light golden gueuze with a wilder, more citric aroma. In mouth, ultra tart with pleasant ground cherry signature, lactic acids. A classic. 8-3-7-3-15. Shared with the Outaouais Crew, at Old Stock Tasting No. IV, Nov.11 2006.

Bottle. Amber beer with a nice white head. Tart aroma with some lemon. High carbonation. Lemony tart flavor with good earthiness. Good sweet/tart bal;ance.Medium body. Lingering lemony tartness that fades to an easrthy spice. Very good gueze. Just needs to get rid of some carbonation, but otherwise it’s great.

Hazy orange/apricot coloured, almost no head, sharp acidic nose. Strong citric and green apple with few yeasty hints. Faint slight sugary finish. Overall a way too sour brew 2003/2004vintage, best before 10.03.2026?!

0.375l bottle, shared with ozujsko at the Hopdevil. 2003-2004Misty orange colour with a small white head. Funky nose with hints of fruits, brett, caramel and lemon. The taste... acidic, dry, typical Boon brett character (which I don’t like much), ashy, funky and sulphury. A bit appley. Ok, refreshing, but not as pleasant as some I’ve had before.

Bottle. Vintage 2004. Redish-orange color with a thin white head. Aroma is very strong and loaded with raspberry, raspberry seeds, vanilla, wood and some funky sourness. Amazing flavor, tons of raspberries. Balanced with a slightly sour, funkiness and caramel malt backbone. Sweet and sour at the same time. Lighter body with an almost creamy texture and a dry finish.Earlier Rating: 11/3/2006 Total Score: 3.6Bottle (Vintage 2003). Hazy reddish color with a nice light red creamy head. Lots of berrys in aroma and taste. Quite sweet, fresh and a bit dry.
