Description
Since 1975, Boon Brewery has been owned and run by Frank Boon, one of the pioneers of the authentic lambic and gueuze revival. But the first signs of the brewery date back to 1680, as a farm-brewery and distillery in the village of Lembeek. In 1860 Louis Paul bought the brewery to brew only lambic and faro. From 1875, he began bottling gueuze lambic. In 1898, Pierre Troch bought the brewery. But after the economic crisis of 1927, it came into the hands of Joseph De Vits. His son, Rene is renowned for the production of soft and fine gueuze lambic. As Rene De Vits had no children, he sold the brewery to Frank Boon.

Bottle. Tart raspberry and musty aroma - very nice. Dark red-brown color with no head. Tart raspberry with slight bitter middle and musty lambic finish. I like this beer as it is in between the traditional lambic sourness and cloying commercial fruit lambics with not too much of each - however may be too middle of the road for some.

Bottled 37,5cl, vintage 2000-2001 (BB 07/2023)
My 400th rated Belgian beer.
Golden apple juice yellow/brown color, small creamy head. Quite typical gueuze aroma: sour with barnyard, oak barrel, pepper and rain water then after warming up it has metallic steel aroma. Medium-bodied. Quite dry, but not as sour as eg. Cantillions. Fruity, earthy barnyard flavors, simple basic (with authentic flavor) gueuze, but lacks complexity of wonderful mariage parfait version. (6/3/7/3/12 3.1)
Re-rated vintage 2003-2004
Bright orange color, big white cloudy head. Cellary, fruity aroma. Sour, a bit watery, fruity, balanced. Light - easy to drink "classic gueze". (7/4/8/3/14 3.6)

Bottle, at Plan B, Copenhagen. Fizzy, clear red colour, initially large head. Aroma is ripe raspberries (no surprise), "over-ripe" perhaps. Fruit garden notes, smells like an "Indian summer" day. Also notes of blackberries. Flavour is again raspberries, not too sour, well balanced, vinous qualities. A supreme fruit lambic.

Bottle of the 2000 Vintage Clear, red body. Lightly pink, fizzy head which diminishes mostly. Lightly sweet raspberry aroma. Lightly sweet, lightly bitter initial flavour. Moderately bitter, lightly acidic finish. Lightly to medium bodied. Fizzy carbonation. The raspberry flavour is quite complex, but not dominated by the complexity as a Westy is, but rather dominated by simplicity with complexity underneath it (but you have to look carefully).
Earlier Rating: 12/29/2003 Total Score: 3.5
Rose body-colour, slightly pinkish head. Quite a lot of bubbles in the not-very-transparant body. The aroma is sweet-sour and of course fruity because of the raspberries. The flavour is also sour-sweety with an appearance of raspberries. This is a very pleasant drinkable beer.

Bottled @RBESG’05, vintage 198?
Hazy reddish nut brown, no head. Earthy, extremely sweet liquerish kriek aroma. Sour, flat, very tart flavor of cherries. After sampling this as 3rd beer in RBESG05 grand tasting, you know we are talking about serious beer rating now :)
