Half pint at The Tipperary, Fleet St. Slight wet sock nose. Hazy golden beer with small lasting head. Watery texture with good hop bitterness. Finish is metallic/vegetal. S’alright.

50cl bottle from Westholme Stores, Goring. Amber with a thin white head; aroma of toffee and spicy English hops; pleasantly sharp grapefruit taste with a malty body and then some mandarin and grassy hops to finish. A rather good IPA with a distinct English feel to it.

Cask at the Fisherman’s Cottage, Reading. A moment’s lack of thought at the bar landed me with this, another beer from one of my least favourite local brewers. That said, it smelled quite nice- sweet and fruity and with more promise than the dull amber hue and thin off-white head had suggested. Unfortunately on tasting it soon descended into blandness with a residue of dirt and cheap caramel, thus maintaining my low opinion of the brewery.

Cask at the Chequers, Cottenham. Reddish brown, very translucent. Very little head. Soft figs, vanilla, forest floor in the aroma. Taste is gently bitter, some fruity sweetness at first but this slowly disappears en route to the sour/bitter finish. Sour cherry and wood shavings in the aftertaste.

Cask at the Kings Arms - London. Pours clear, deep amber with a slight, off-white head. The nose holds bread, some ripening fruits. Medium sweet flavor with mellow caramel, bread, old berries, faint molasses, figs, prunes. Medium bodied with fine carbonation; good condition. Moderately sweet to finish, pretty well balanced for the style, with further ripe berries, other dried fruits, light caramel. Classic ESA.

500ml clear glass bottle: BBD 24 Jun 15, opened on 31 Oct 14 and poured into an Abbot Ale tankard at home. Clear golden body with a smooth white blanket on top. Good hop nose, floral mostly, the hops turn semi-bitter in the taste and follow through into the aftertaste. Nice brew, some mild light maltiness mid-sip and very easy to drink.

[First rating, 4/2/4/2/6] Cask at the Alehouse, Reading. Very pale gold, with a mouthfeel as thin and watery as it looks. The flavour continues in the whole insipid theme; fairly sweet with vague hints of honey and grass. Tastes completely watered down. No actual off notes, but then there’s not much of anything good at all either. Very poor. [Second rating, 3/1/2/2/4] Keg at the Hope Tap, Reading. Buggrit, didn't realise I'd already rated this. Still completely insipid in looks, mouthfeel and taste. Rather flat which is surprising for a keg. Sweet with some dust and not a lot else. Dismal.[Overall rating is the average of all rates].

Bottled 500ml. -from www.beershop.hr Clear amber coloured, small tan head, mild nutty caramel nose. Toasted malt, caramel and fruity with pleasant herbal hoppy notes. Some nutty notes in rather dry bitter finish. Not bad at all.

Cask, hand-pulled half-pint in The Old Red Cow, Smithfield London on 12th Sep 2014. Poured a light amber with a white head. Aroma is spicy hop with a malty undertone. The taste was also hop first and slightly bitter with the malty underbelly giving it a semi-sweet feel throughout. I liked it. Depth of body could have been deeper, but at 3.8%ABV it was fine.
