Draught. Totally opaque dark brown with almost non-existent foamy beige head that dissipates immediately without even leaving a ring. A bit of caramel aroma, low carbonation, slightly flat caramel-rum taste, abrupt finish with rum aftertaste. Interesting but not spectacular.

The Sampler, Brooklyn 750ml ($16): Pours orange with a white head. This was an exploding beer for sure. I took the metal cage off the cork and within seconds the beer blew up, forcing me to cover the top with my mouth. Aroma is earthy, fruity, and a bit funky. Taste is similarly Earthy, kind of sweet. Sort of off. I don’t think I like what the brett did in this beer. Or perhaps, I just didn’t like the way it blended with what I would consider too hefty a malt backbone. In any case, this was not my kind of beer. Something about the brett from this brewery just doesn’t work for me.

750ml bottle pours a murky gold with lots of frothy white head. Full disclosure, be careful with opening. My cork was ready to pop the moment the cage came off. I left it to go on it’s own and boy, did it. Hit the ceiling. I was surprised to see no gushing. Just a carb problem? Who knows? Lots of brett in the nose, straw, dusty, some band aid, a fair amount of tropical fruit, pineapple, guava, some basil seed. Flavor follows right along, fruity, lightly sweet, pineapple, basil seed, chrysanthemum, straw, a little wood pulp, some band aid. Finishes fairly full bodied and spritzy. Solid first attempt.
